  1. I'm not sure what the current price is but it's not expensive. Easiest way to get it to the PH is to take it yourself or get your local RFD to send it for you. As far as deactivation is concerned, have a read of this, it's all detailed ...........https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/117802/deactivation-of-firearms-2010.pdf
  2. I live in a very similar environment to the one you describe and when going out for a walk round with a gun I've never used a slip in over 50 years.
  3. As form 101 is used to apply for Section 1 firearms it is a little pointless and unnecessary to write section one 12 bore, as is detailing self loading when the form clearly states action type is not required. All one needs to apply for is a 12 bore shotgun. You put high capacity shotgun and you also state whether a pump or a semi auto. Your ticket will say semi or pump. You are obviously not familiar with the application form 101. Neither Action type or magazine capacity is required and for this reason there is no place on the form to supply such information. Al

  5. 12 bore shotgun is what you write down.
  6. They will take your character into account. I've pasted below the relevant section from the procedural guide. • Consider character and third parties (family, friends, associates, other residents) and where appropriate conduct PNC/CRO and criminal intelligence checks. Considerable care must be taken when conducting these checks as there is likely to be an infringement of Article 8 of the ECHR. The Family, Friends and Associates of the individual applying have a right to respect for their privacy and family life and Firearms legislation makes no provision for this right in respect of t
  7. Don't know anything about .410 but I have 12 bore slugs on ticket for deer. If you can demonstrate a good reason then there is no reason why they will not grant your request. However, with slugs giving say a 4" group I would suggest No 3 shot a better bet for fox.
  8. Territorial conditions do not apply to section 1 shotguns. HO guidance states........... d) (Section 1) Smooth-bore guns 10.48 In the case of an application in respect of a smooth-bore gun to which section 1 of the 1968 Act applies, it will not be necessary for specific areas of land over which the applicant has permission to shoot to be examined where section 2 shotgun cartridges are used. See Appendix 3 for relevant conditions for shooting of vermin, practical target shooting disciplines or other forms of target shooting.
  9. Just send your FAC back with a letter asking them to add the quarry species you want. A variation is not required and changes of conditions are free.
  10. As this is a British site I doubt there are many members living in the USA who post on here. You would be better off posting on an American forum.
  11. And where exactly, in the firearms act, does it say this ?
  12. Not if he's shooting with a shotgun.. But if you read the opening post you will see that he did say "risk losing his firearm license"
  13. You will need a specific condition on your FAC You must report the fact to the police within 48 hours You have no automatic right to shoot a dog, in fact by so doing you will have committed an act of criminal damage. However, in the case of a dog shot whilst in the act of worrying livestock the person who shoots the dog would, in a court of law, have to demonstrate his lawful excuse and show that his actions were justifiable and reasonable. Remember that for such a defense to be acceptable the dog may only be shot whilst it is an immediate threat and you may be called upon to prove
  14. Do not confuse ownership of shooting rights with "permission to shoot" or indeed a lease of the shooting rights. They are completely different things and in this instance it would appear that, in the OP's case, there seems to be some confusion as to whom owns the shooting rights. The landowner would know as the deeds to the farm would contain the detail.
  15. I would suggest you heed BASC's advice. The latest view of ACPO can be found in the minutes of their March meeting and I quote............. 17. SECTION 11(5) EXEMPTION 17.1 Helen Rees asked for some concensus on the definition of “Occupier” for the purposes of S11(5) of the Firearms Act. BASC, NGO and Gamekeepers Association interpret it to mean the individual has a right to shoot which means they effecitvely have permission from the landowner. Helen’s view on 11(5) is that a person can benefit from non exemption if they have a shooting right (a binding contract with the lando
  16. Many of those who dismiss open chokes fail to point out that improved cylinder will throw, near enough, the % same pattern at 50 yds as 3/4 will at 60 yds. Quite what the current trend to over choke barrels is beyond me.
  17. Have a read of the communications act, which sets out the law. Evasion of a license is a criminal act. A police officer has the right to inspect the contents of your cabinet search warrant or not. Here's an extract...........Powers to enforce TV licensing (1)If a justice of the peace, a sheriff in Scotland or a lay magistrate in Northern Ireland is satisfied by information on oath that there are reasonable grounds for believing— (a)that an offence under section 363 has been or is being committed, (that evidence of the commission of the offence is likely to be on premises
  18. Do you think that "good fun" is sufficient reason to hold these under the terms of your firearms certificate? And there's me thinking that we all shoot for fun. Do some shoot because they hate it ?
  19. I'm afraid chap you are not understanding the conditions written on your certificate. The condition you quote is the standard expanding ammunition that everyone has and has no bearing on what you may shoot with your rifle/s. You can only shoot what your rifle conditions say. I understand quite clearly what I am allowed to shoot they are listed in 1 to 9 of the FC the additional condition I quote 10 is the relevant one in respect to all wildlife. LOL Ah, I'm with you now. Looks to me that Somerset authorise their fac holders to purchase expanding ammo but not to use it !!

  21. I tend to use 3" no 6 as that's all I can get locally. Never had any problems with them, after all they are only being used at a short distance.
  22. A .410 is my preferred tool for putting down all stock upto and including cows. It is more than upto the job. I've only ever shot one bull and used a 12 bore on that so can't comment on how a .410 would work. I much prefer to use a .410 to my .38.
  23. The Firearms Act lays down the reasons for a revocation. Revocations are always done in writing. Your FEO will not be able to provide an answer on the phone as the decision will be that of the CC through the licensing manager. For a definitive answer you will need to re apply and insist that everything they tell subsequent to your application is confirmed in writing. Revocation of firearm certificates. (1) A firearm certificate may be revoked by the chief officer of police for the area in which the holder resides on any of the grounds mentioned in subsections (2) to (5
  24. To put it simply, shotgun cartridges are not section 1 therefore are not put on your FAC because they are not restricted like rifle ammunition. All you need to do is produce your FAC like you would with a SGC when you buy some.
  25. Territorial conditions should not be attached to FAC shotguns. It would be highly unusual for such a condition to be imposed. Also, don't forget to ask for a clay shooting condition in addition to your vermin one.
