    the old generation started them alot earlier,,,,than younger guys 2day dont either guys are more clued up 2day or its down to vet bills me all mine are diffrent one started at 11month other 8 month other 7month,,,,dogs diffrent one thing ill never do as other topic,,says 9 weeks,,,,(A) its not long off the tit,,&,,( winter time out and about with 9 week pup ,,,-20c it will frezze to death i think theres no thumb to rule on age,,,,,just down to owner doing whats right,,,and not being a tube

    i dont think he,s on whippet archives cocker he would have been ,s 90,s ,,,,,i think he was 26/27lb but had to run 28lb class,,,and still won supreme,,,iam sure his name was bandit,,,use to read him all the time,,,fawn dog another was a ped who was inported to canada ( snapper) pardee phoneix lines,,,,,,this dog kick ass with most sighthound lure coursing in his country,,,,,but these were diffrent times,,,,,i hope the peds get back on track,,,,and not too much show,,,,,i like the scottish ped club at momment ,,,,,,as there into dogs abbilitie and show its the peddlars in whippets ,,

    I don't think there is a Hall of Fame thing for Whippets, that includes the fastest times. I would think the fastest at the moment is a dog called Loves Lockdown, which is breaking Greyhound track records on the bends, not sure how it does on the 150 yards straight track, though. It's a big dog, and some people might not class it as a "Whippet", but if the BWRA doe's, then it's their rules, and that's what counts !     ive got a wee article off a coursing whippet club in early ,s i can put on for ya country joe,,,,an event held after shooting season for one day althou the ploughed feilds,,,,the going was not good for the whippets ,,,i,e heavy wet ground ,,,the artical comes with 3 photos and a wee write up for the day ill put on we i get the chance

    for you two old yins abit more ,nostalgia,,,maybe in yer parents day thou lol we are gratful to bwra president,mr jack cadman, for the loan of this old photo which was taken in approx 1900. and includes a dog name ALACRITY which although not raced , won about sixty rabbit courses. This dog was typical of the south yorks .whippet of the time , being whippet x greyhound and weighing 31lb. What are the racing names of your dogs mate.     I THOUGHT ur fav would have been ,,,i think marretta scratch a fawn scratch racer,,,long body ,,,unsure about spelling rich,,,,,undeafeted 72 races,,,they dog were more famous than football stars 2day ,in there local area ( i think) ,,,,prize money in the scratch racing back then could be as much as £100 to £ ,,,,,heat winners got £1.50 ,,,,bearing in mind ,,,50p could buy u the best leather lead and collar for yer dog,,,,and 2 bob which i think was 10p could feed yer dog in the best meat for a week but i wasnt around then,,,,but you were rich,,,,is it true ?????     heres one off the debates in 1977 non ped v,s pedigree lol,,,,appions back then and are still on going in a way 2day mr .g hunter of crawford ,tyne & wear to those who object to the use of the name WHIPPET to describe greyhound crosses , i can only say that there were whippet racing tracks long before the KENNEL CLUB ever accepted the whippet as a breed.     cocker the one in middle,,,insane jane,,,is amazing,,,,some irish lads this year were lucky enough to come across and see her win scottish derby again,,,,couple years back when she won scottish derby for the 1st time she,s only 24/25lb,,,if there was a fun run with a open class scratch dog then,,,all my money would have been on her,,,despite her being half the size,,,,,she was and STILL IS ,, pure class,,,she a veteran now,,,but i would still not bet against her,,,,small dog ,,,,heart of a tiger

    we did once have a funday at ary once,,,were all dogs competeing had to run various races and earn points to win,,,north east and north west english came and scottish came,,,it was as close as we got to a team event then the result,,, scottish dogs,,,1st , 2nd , 3rd lol,,,,as it was a points earning comption rather than the norm,,,same as if scotland did produce a team ,,us scots do ok lol,,,but we still get sent homeward as well with our TAIL between our legs just as much from the english dogs ,alot aswell use to trail my dog at ped club few years back,,,but he had to run al

    the scottish dogs perform ok whin,,,,there usally out numbered 50/1, on the day,,,but still send a good few english dogs ,homeward ta think again :laugh: 2/3 years ago jim leech from east ayrshire,,,wanted to put a scottish team togther and invade england,,,and there was a very good strong scottish team then from 18lbers to 32lbers and couple off promising young scratch dogs back then,,,but it didnt happen as the scottish racers are dotted all over,,and work commitments for most made it difficult ,

    No Tay was as black as coal this is the white one your thinking of Midge the bitch standing next to her is Bess a whippet greyhound x saluki I won a coursing stake up in yorkshire with Bess £50 plus a nice trophy she ran 5 and killed 4 . i read somewhere in whippet mags ,,,cant rember what year,,,,is tay the dog that use to run the 1000 distance at bends???? i have a wee look,,,i had it in my hand few weeks back,,,a guy use to run his non ped ,,longer distances at tracks years ago
