  3. Check my zero almost every time I get out (have forgotten a time or two) The scope should hold its zero; but its always a good idea to make sure it's not been altered especially if like me you have finger adjustable turrets on your scope. Grouping's got sod all to do with it thats down to the shooter and/or the gun/pellet combination If your sights are out; your pellets will all land in the same area (called a group) just not where your crosshairs are aimed at. If its not a good group (more than an inch) then its either down to the shooter or the gun not liking the pellets.
  4. Hey guy's, Since comming back into airgunning I have had the real pleasure of chatting to and meeting a number of really nice genuine people, both here on THL and via the UBC. Many of these people have become great friends will remain lifelong friends Last night I met Dillan another member of THL who has a passion for various Field Sports including Airgun Hunting. Dillan very kindly offered me the chance to have a wander around one of his permissions and do some vermin control. As I had never shot this particular vermin species I jumped at the chance. And boy was it a night to re
  5. Hey Chaz I totally agree with you when you say it's not all about the killing To me its mostly about "Me time", being alone or even with someone else, getting away from the grind and crap I have to deal with on a daily basis. I can sit in the paddock or the cemetery for hours and not even point the gun at anything other than to get a better view of the local wildlife. But when it comes to the Mink, yes they are lovely creatures but I would just as happily shoot them as I would a grey tree rat also lovely creatures IMHO. Some tw@t let a load of Mink free round here a few years back, to

  7. Very good point about ID'ing whats wrapped around the eyeball I've been as far as the second stage before (more than once) realizing it was a rather large eye (either that or it was much closer than I had thought) and it turned out to be one of the local moggies That little extra caution has saved a couple of moggies both domesticated and ferral. Its also saved me from injuring a fox, one winters night I would hate myself and most definately given up pest control if I had not checked and double checked before squeezing the trigger and hurting/killing something other than a pes

  11. Hey Bud, The theory is that they will expand outwards like a bullet. Something like this: However to get that kind of expansion you need a very high velocity A sub 12 will not give the expansion that the marketers claim. Unless you hit a steel plate. I did a reply to a thread on this subject not too long back, I'll see if I can find it and link for you But basically pellet expansion in a sub 12 is a myth, the only expansion is from the skirt when it fills out to fill the rifling. 12. Ahh I get yah now Pointed ones are the worst of all for accuracy. One slight knock or nick on the tip will destabalise the flight no end, so as far as penatration goes, crap because they have to hit the target before penatration can occure Wad cutters/Flatheads are okay for close to medium range. They transfere most (if not all) their kinetic energy upon impact. This is very useful when enclosed in buildings and you dont want ricochets. The God that was the late great John Darling used them to good effect on ferrals and even bunny's. Although he mostly used Domes Domed pellets a
  13. AA fields because they are cheap and do the biz in all my guns. Hard hitting as well. FX16 grain, because they are just as good and a quid cheaper than the AAF's Milbro Caledonian, because I was nieve and didn't know any better back then Fantastic expansion at 10 M against steel plates Marksman pointed, again because IU believed the hype back in the day and didnt realize that BB's had a more stable trajectory. Promethius yellow, cuz my son thought they would be good and he baught me 4 tubs one year (it was the thought that counts) D&N Geco in .177 for superbly accurat
