  3. Will the new right to roam act that is now in place have an effect on terrier lads? Not only have you got to watch out for crag rats on the foot paths, they are also going to pop up everywhere...

  7. 1/speed, but educated how to anticipate when to slow for the strike. 2/a confident manner, especially for dealing with big critters like fallow and sika. 3/strong enough to be able to hold them the best they can. After that, i think it all depends on whether you would be wanting to run the bigger deer that require holding , or the smaller deer that can be flipped... your dog will be the way it will be, best to look at the parent of any pup you aquire if you want it to be something special....JMHO....JD this is a brace from 6 taken early one morning....
  8. Well, i put a young bitch into a nicde little earth a while back. only 2 foot deep but it is a foot of compressed rubble and tarmac and the rest is clay. the wind was blowing like hell and it was a good morning to be out. even with my ear to the ground, and at only 2 foot!, i could not hear a thing due to the wind.... we had a successful conclusion nearly an hour after entry, but had we not got a collar on the dog then i think she woudl have either come away in the end or we would have not found her until the weather calmed. If the collar is "snagged" on a root (and i have never seen that happ
  9. both, for without one the other is of little use......IMHO
  10. IMHO you wont get better than a late summer roe for starting pups off. They can run and turn a bit, but they will run out of steam pretty fast. i would avoid muntys as they can hurt a dog and if your pup hits big old grumpy buck then it may get opened right up and that wount do the dog any favours.....CWD are excellent too...
  11. sounds like you havent run the right daytime roe mate..... last season i saw scoob struggle to come to terms with a roe doe, i mean this deer was flying...she had seen a dog before and knew the craic...Loki, these deer get hammered, and i mean hammered as there are very few in my area. those that are left at the end of the season are either lucky or very good atheletes. I have travelled extensively down south mate and seen how much deer there is down there, so i dont think you can compare the two places.....imagine having to spend all day looking for a run? it happens up here, down south the

  15. duckwing, would you mind me asking if it were an adult english red? the CWD is a good run in the daytime and well worth the trip out to run one...if the ban ever got over-turned that is....this critter was the 18th on the bounce for scoob without missing,...but he missed the 19th totally my fault....ha ha
  16. the owner had to call in dyno-rod after RRUK had left his previous evenings dinner blocking his U bend....dirty mister
  17. luckily for me i have managed to run all six before the ban, in daytime and eerrmm.....evening... to put a list together you must thing...is it the most difficult to catch? or for the dog to make contact with? for a dog to get up to (and based on the "best" of the species), from my limited experience: most difficult is roe, fallow, red,CWD, sika, munty.... now once a dog gets to his deer then all sorts of fun can begin.....reds are, in all intents and purposes, virtually impossible to take with a single dog....adult red in england..., then fallow take some stopping, they are powerful and s
