  2. These little chaps were some 30 foot high in the roof of an old barn. I took this quick pic before leaving them undisturbed. Look like they will be jumping ship over the next 2 days. They are only about 20 foot from a jackdaws nest too....but what are they???
  3. Saw this critter today.....i have been watching it for a while and it laid an egg this morning. This is the second clutch.....does anyone know what nest it is?????

My Uncle Dave has always been a great help to me. A hero in my eyes to be fair. I loved to hear the old tales of digging, mad dog men, scrapping at terrier shows ands close escapes. I guess i have always been obsessed with animals from a very young age and hunting is the closest you can get to animals really so everything fell into place slowly. Loved reading books and i loved pedigree unknown and a keepers tale, must have read them a thousand times each.
  5. Ditchy , just get out and do it.....it shouldnt be hard with a lamp and rifle really. Anytime after dark will have various critters out in the fields...and thats where i would be looking, rather than the rough ground. If there is any fields that is!! lol.
  6. HAVE YOU BEEN READING OLD JIMS BOOKS , JD ? DUCKWING no matey, i have reared one or two birds you know in my time..... Pm sent. he means a different Jim Lamps......
  7. Dont worry hun all that is going on atm is IAN trying to stop DARCY giving his bod away free...Ian does get a bit jelouse of the fact that DARCY is a bit free with his favours youve never complained...sweetie
  8. Yes i used to love deargi's articles, thought they were brilliant as a kid. All the lurcher ones too had me enthralled. What is funny though is that there are hardly any Plummer articles. I always thought he had wrote weekly from the start, but i guess my mind is a little cloudy. Never forget rushiong to the newsagents with my 45 pence!!!!! on one "talkabout page" some chap from Stirling has sent a letter and photo in of his catch he had allegedly made with his great dane.....86 rabbits in 2 1/2 hours!!! with a bloody great dane.... i bet there was some right laughs over that one..... i
  9. They jump the nest at 11 days old, but if disturbed will jump at 10. I watched a good few pairs last year feeding and they were not bothered at all about my presence. Those young look about 8 or 9 days to me. Near where i live theres loads of that bullrush and they bloody love it for nesting. Eating machines they are too!! Was once out with a gimp and his dog jumped into the cover and picked up a reedy chick!!! Lovelly eggs they have too..... i think the buntings jump a few days earlier than finches because they nest on the floor and have higher survival rates if the chicks disperse into
  10. I like both rabbit and fox nets nice and wide. Used to buy 5 footers from Johnson Fieldsports and they wree the dogs danglies...i like 8 foot fox nets too...they will catch what a small net wont IMHO
  11. There was quite a bit of banter surrounding a lad from the far north that was lamping large numbers of hares, 64 in three nights if i remember correctly.
  12. their catterpillars are amazing......found a few over the years..rosebay willowherb i think...
  13. just been lent a huge pile of old Shooting News mags from 84 to 87. It really brings back memories to the days when i would be nipping to the newsagents to see if it had arrived . Due to the lack of colour pics they do look a little dated, but the articles are brilliant, a step back in time. The letters page "terrier and lurcher talkabout" is brilliant with challenges being issued and strong opinions voiced, a truely entertaining read.... its going to take me some time to wade through them all!!
  14. when i was with my Ex we used to have it "doggy style" regular... I would sit up and beg and she would roll over and play dead!!!!
  15. We need a "fish-eye" lense for Ians huge Konk!!! The love of my Life....Lucy....gone but not forgotten, a cracking little foxing bitch that was a real character. When i got her she had been badley treated and obviously not fed and cared for. A couple of months down the line she was a different dog with her whole life ahead of her. I gave her some great work and a caring home where she must have thanked the lord that her fortunes had changed. She had to be PTS a couple of years ago with an unoperable back condition.
  16. If theres feather lining theres always eggs. cock nests dont get lined out. keep a watchful eye on it ditchy..
