yeah some dogs feel fairly uncomfortable with them at first, but I found if you put it on before every hunt, or walk out, or play time, they soon learn that it means fun times. My old bull cross hated his at first, but soon he was wagging his tail when it came out lol

Why gundog crosses are not more popular is a mystery to me. Thesedays Im all about the bigger dogs. Im hoping to continue from my German wirehair,and breed myself a good hunting pup that will work with its mother. She hunts hard and fast, can keep a wounded stag pinned, will hold a mark on a fox. Is keen on varied predators that we encounter here and abroad. She points birds well. She loves a boar hunt. Though the pup will be for big game not birds,. I like the speed of the hunt with the bigger dogs, I like their ability to hold big game in a more certain manner. And for now, I dont want

Had some of this breeding, mine had jrt/fell/cocker Heres a pup, looks a lot like yours Willow, this one is doing well with a keeper, I entered him to fox but he was too steady for me, made a better beating dog,.

Something that might help you mate, as I know it helped me, was buying a Garmin tracker. Its total piece of mind knowing where they are at. I never miss a beat now. Looks like you hunt similar land to me, thick forest, open hill.

Mine, Boozer. He was a good worker for me, and not just a good beating/shooting dog. He came ratting, foxing, trapping, out fowling, whatever really he was mad keen. Always busy, always ready. Good hunting, DnN

Yeah great to hear everyone is well prepared, dogs are fit and working hard now. Fingers crossed they all stay safe until Jan. Who was bringing the radios? Also a reminder for everyone to bring some High-Viz hat or vest, we cant hunt without it.

Ok, Ive booked accommodation, pretty nice pad actually. 3 nights: 6th, 7th and 8th. Also, Ive made some serious inroads to other exciting venues. I will check them all out properly over the next summer.

So, we breed these hundreds of types of hunting dogs we have today, only to revert back to the wolf lol something a bit backwards in that? I think looking at that type of dog I see the wolf, a true wild hunter, and think, 'that will hunt like stink', but to be honest, if I looked at the job needed from the dog, there would be a purpose made mutt out there for me, that wont eat me lol only kidding im sure their lovely, but seriously, there would be a breed of dog that will be made for the job in hand, whatever that be. The old deben are not waterproof, I think they make one that looks like a wee tiny hockey puck thats watertight lol I have an old mk1 set-up you could get off me, but there no good for regular underwater work in my opinion. -
Andrew, this is excellent advice from Matt. Try and get out with a good terrierman locally, likely he will even keep a type of terrier that suits your area.

i grew up hunting a red collie as our main gundog/bushing dog and family dog, he was great for marking, searching rough ground, retrieve, all fur and feather was worked. We did very well with that dog. In fact when I got my first springer he taught that spaniel a lot! If I was hunting more boar, I would like to add a collie or kelpie to the team, as they make good find and bay dogs for rough game like boar. (they know how to stay alive lol)

I see 3 separate populations regularly. The biggest population contains mostly mlanistic and dark browns. Another has a range of colours, with the majority on the darker side, but plenty of menil and all the in-between shades too. The 3rd and smallest herd, has mostly menil, with a fair portion of whites.

I see mostly rough coats from that sort of breeding, she is a lovely stamp of dog mate. Wont be lacking nose! All the best with her.

It was my main income for 3 years, I thought pay was very good, and I charged a fiver a mole ffs on farm jobs (caught lots of moles!) Most of these 'pro' mole trappers on here charge a hell of a lot more than I did but they all moan like f**k...I still do a bit now, but Im loving the forest work too much lol A fiver a mole ? ,might be alright , over vast acreage, populated with decent numbers.Not so good when your 'walking' a large area,to mop up moles here & there,.....lol Come to think of it ,havent had the chance to treat any ground,thats 'black' with moles,for a long while.Depend

When I was a keeper, I paid for a holiday to Corfu for the whole fam, off selling dried skins on ebay for fly tying. I shot and ate a lot of game/vermin, and didnt like wasting anything, so always salt cured the skins of fur and feather. Ended up with heaps of the damn things so put a few up and they went like hot-cakes...Theres nothing wrong about posting this kind of thing mate within the UK. I still have some nice roe skins, boar, chamois, rabbit, hare, goats lol Im willing to sell and ship!

No issues with postage at all, ive done the same thing with skins etc and bigger critters too. Even sent owls, buzzards, all were reported road kills, all made it to the destination within UK with no issues. the skins were salted and rolled, all animals and birds were sent frozen.

Yep, and sent them first class, wrapped up in bubble wrap and newspaper.

I sold my silver on ebay, got over 100 quid for it! happy days. I also left a bag of random moles in my ex girlfriends mums freezer, she was not happy when she found them lol straight in the bin haha

JD, no it had a pure white coat, but with rusty staining around the front end and vent. Ive had 3 of those orangey-white ones that were not albino, and about 4 true albino. Only one silver, and as far as I know they are super rare. Albino Mr Mudder, thats a different one that black and orange.. I wonder if the same area will produce more in the future? Ive not had a rare one for years now... it always put a grin on my face getting a different one Great to see!
