I only shoot to about 300yards regularly, more than that and a fox is a very small target!! I like the no recoil and quietness of 222/223, never shot a 223 mind you but have heard there much the same.........i have shot a fair bit but am relatively new to shooting, shot 350+ foxes in the last 20months though. THings i like the sound of if i can pick your brains please baldie is- (now i repeat i'm fairly new to this) 1 Short bolt throw as in pull back length and degree that you have to lift the bolt, I shoot a ruger m77 mk2 and the bolt handle rubs the scope so no scope covers for me 2 St

i've got schmidt and bender on my rifle and am very happy with it 6x42, don't use it much though, use estate 222 with tasco world class, scratched to buggery and i hate it!! Never heard of nightforce till a few weeks ago and everyone seems to rave about them, Night force or S+B?

this is my first research stage........just wanting to get ideas of what people use, think etc My school of thought is why buy a factory rifle then add on a decent stock as i'm not made to fit average stocks, very long and skinny..lol then have it bedded etc, why not pay a little more to start with and be really happy How much is a custom job? over a refined factory rifle? why not in 223/222? and i'm based near guildford in surrey, any rifle builders near here, and who in the country do you recommend?

If money was no object, which scope for fox shooting with 222/223 and daytime crows, rabbits etc As is the case money is a factor so which scope for the same but not ludicrus, want to set-up a really nice rifle that i really enjoy shooting??

Starting to toy with the idea of getting a 222 or 223 rifle and would like it to be a good one that i can really enjoy using(an investment as such) Who is recommended to build a semi custom rifle? blueprinting etc So can any one help?! Which rifles to start from? as a base? 1. Who can build them? 2.What calibre? 3. what stock, manufacturers? 4. What should/needs to be done, blueprinting, bedding etc(whats neccassary, don't want to waste money) 5. Heavy barrel or not? does it affect accuracy for fox shooting or just targets? If heavy is the way forward what weight would a rifle

from what you say i'd clicked beddy whippet but have you thought bedy whippet x collie/grey something along those lines.........slightly bigger than a first cross whippet but that explozive speed would be good for you........

hi mate can you get the bigger, rounded mouthed/blade spade/shovel? might grab one of those fibreglass ones as well if you can??

yep as said, it is the free floating arguement which has been proven by many shooters worldwide......the reason most guns have freefloating barrels Deker you are correct saying that if the forces were the same on the barrel then it would not affect POI but while hunting the surfaces the bipod etc will rest on will differ, adversly affecting the oscilation of the barrel, likewise you would have to apply the exact same force down or up on the barrel to avoid altering the POI, therefore attaching to the barrel will always make shooting next to impossible..............as an example i had the l

well i said .22lr he said he was rabbiting with the possibility of a fox.........theres one outstanding rabbit gun,...the .22lr and should a fox get seen within say 50yards then pop in a stinger and bump him off.......I have cleanly killed foxes to 100yards max being 109yards with stingers(always got dog with me to back up the shot)

i've got a ruger and every so often it plays up whether clean or dirty(just like a woman) when there working there excellent, and can rattle off round very quick, shot 3 fox cubs very quick at close range, couldn't of with a bolt action, and with a 50 shot magazine can kill a lot of bunnies quickly without moving a muscle...............but when they play up makes you want to turn it round and pull the trigger, f*** its annoying!!! There is such a market of aftermarket part you can really do anything to them as and when you get the money I sold my remington 597 cos it was horrible did

yeah i'm a skinny one.......so to sum up the swivel with the lock on is best with the height being down to size and what sort of shooting style you can utilise.....but best to try height Sorted??

Hi, i see you can brand leather? I had a idea a while ago to brand leather collars with address details etc, as i have one collar for day to day family dog walking with a jingly tag of address details........not great for hunting so i sort of scratch in with biro.............i would love to have it branded into a leather collar, so no jingly bits and no worry of not getting dog back if lost..........could be good??

ah ha...yes quite small fields with plenty of roads, 42 miles of footpaths, houses overlooking most fields, hills mean you rarely get a shot prone and if you did the trajectory is so flat that you tend to be pointing over a brow of hill at a house, road or something else i would probably hit. Deer stalkers have been asked to leave the estate as they said they could only shoot prone, i would not be reprimanded for shooting prone but the estate owner/land owner would start to think i may be irresponsible not taking the safest shot first, so i learnt to be rock steady on sitting shots so safety

i don't know what the barrel clamp is but if its what it sounds like then its a no no........nothing should touch the barrel ever clamp or not it'll throw shots randomly, fix it too thestock via a QD sling stud sitting when done properly is very nearly as steady as prone.....sit side on, knees up with arms crossed over the top, for a right handed shooter the left hand on the butt.......its all about triangles(the strongest most rigid shape, look at bridges etc) make as many as possible, this position with a bipod is fantastic.....but it really depends what your grounds like i very rarely g

unfortunately the extra long bipod is a bit high for prone possible but not great..............that pod lock looks great....wish i had a swivel head now!!!!

i have had to take 2 going away shots in the last year(theres a tw*t on the next door estate that shoots at foxes miles away) both were lampshy foxes that i'd seen time and time again............so knowing where the first would be would be i set myself up with a filter and about when i expected them to be about flicked the lamp over.....it started running off so performed the afforementioned texas heartshot aiming right at the ring............i had discussed this with a VERY experienced deer man and he said it was a theoretically viable shot. It crucified it, frome the liver foreward was out

i couldn't get on with the swivel bipod, the fixed bipod just felt better for me, yes there has been the odd time when it wasn't level but a bit of weight on one leg sorts it out, i'd suggest trying one first, saying that i went for the 27" max length pod i'm a long person and shoot around alot cover, once you get used to sitting you can shoot tight groups at 100yards, also on my permission prone is frowned upon/banned and i regularly shoot foxes at 250yards which i consider the max range of my gun/ammo/terrain, and with very little fieldcraft you should get to that range but all told

i think theres a clause somewhere saying once a animal is in captivity it cannot be released but is often overlooked where native animals and indeed any animal is concerned, if your a member of basc or ngo give them a call, they are always helpful and up for getting one over on the antis

a bore guide is also usefull to stop you scoring the rifling while putting the rod through i thought it was a gimic but it is quite good and for £20 worth having
-
my head keeper a very good shotgun shot has regularly killed at 90 yards with aaa and bb's but unless your also very confident with your shooting stick to 40-50 max and avoid going away shots, very hard to kill cleanly when going away

would love it but ain't got that money at the moment would need a sleeping bag as well

i got the 27?inch model but the biggest i could and it makes the difference, a mate got the 25 and often can't get the shot over things etc i went for the fixed version as the twist and swivel at that height was sloppy as the legs give some twist and bend so combined was too much!! in this case big was better..........shoot all my foxes onit and out too 160yrds ......very rarely can i take a prone shot.....would be steady for much further too!!
