  1. You can double-tap with a semi auto, but it's not so much a follow-up as a pre-meditated double, otherwise the fox may well have moved!
  2. I have a 4.5-14x50 LR Leupold on my Hornet. Which is not HMR for sure, but has similar ballistics and I use it like one
  3. OK, I gave in. Phoned up and changed the 22-250 form I sent for a 243. Hope that's the right call!
  4. More confusion! But you do make a good point. Thing is, roe's about the only deer I shoot besides muntjac, so the 308 would be a tad redundant then.
  5. I wish! The 204 is not wanted, and the CZ was beautifully cheap to buy so doubt I will get much there sadly. Looking like a choice of Tikka T3 laminate, Remington model 7 lam/stainless or savage weather warrior. Remington is cheap and I'm not blessed with cash for now, but drawn to the Savage as it's ready to go and has a fast twist so shoots 69gr apparently.
  6. Fair duff mate, but I wouldn't advise on stuff like reloading for that very reason anyway, but you gotta take info on any forum with a pinch of salt, what might be good/safe in/for one gun might be extremely dangerous, like putting someone's hot .45-70 reload for their ruger no.1 in a repro rolling block or trapdoor springfield (not many people can only say that it won't be safe due to other peoples experiences and info- I can't see anyone willing to blow up their gun (or their hands)just to see if it's safe or not they'll use other peoples info)..... but the first time you do something, you
  7. Update on this one, I got the Howa shooting, but I'm still thinking of switching. My CZ 223 has worked well and the 204 is OK now (although I need to get case trimming sorted - the variable length means some bullets get correctly crimped while some cases get deformed, and Lee doesn't make a 20 cal factory crimp die). But I just kinda feel it would be better if I had both rolled into one - accurate and hard hitting, and capable of taking the muntjac too. So 22-250 here I come I think, and both rifles will go. Makes it easier on scopes, too.
  8. Originally with Remington 40gr factory, 5-inch Does the same with the 40gr v-max too, so likely not stabilising it. But now i shoot 26.3gr RL10X, 32gr Nosler seated to COL 2.25 and it works. Needed Remington 7 1/2 primers though, as the CCI400 aren't strong enough and were rupturing occasionally. (maybe 1/10)
  9. This is put to bed now, in that the Howa works, but likely to sell as not a fan of reloading the 204. The availability of stuff is really annoying. And I got it zeroed with stuff it likes, then promptly managed to come home and drop the gun on my foot. So I wasted time and money AND got bruising for my trouble. It's jinxed I say!!
  10. Either should be OK. I have a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 which is a good scope. I got the wrong one, but it's a quality bit of kit. When I bought it I had a look at the Nikon, and the Bushnell seemed a smidgen better. But it was a tiny amount, so really whichever is cheapest, although I guess the magnification of the Bushnell might swing it.
  11. I don't know enough to make an accurate comment, but it looks too cheap to be decent IMHO.
  12. You're using the 22 for rabbits and the 223 for foxes? Well for the 22 I'm not sure at the moment, basically something that goes bang should work. 223, well CZ 527 is my choice, or a Remington of some description. My CZ cost me £410 (but that was before these price increases), and weighs sod all, but is accurate (1/2 to 3/4 MOA) and reliable. My Remington is a tad heavy for field work as it's an SPS Tactical, but it shoots 1/2MOA and isn't ammo fussy. Bear in mind with 223 for fox work, that ideally you will want good optics for it, and they're likely to cost as much as the rifle
  13. I play, well kinda Got a Fender USA Strat, had it for several years. It's one of those things I picked up and got so far with, but never took that next step and really did properly. Shame, I enjoy it...
  14. Have already emailed John Redwood, his response was that this has been raised with the Government in the House and they seem determined to ignore it. So much for democracy, closest to Nazi Germany if you ask me. Disgusted.
  15. yes there is a magnification adjustment dial on every variable power scope.
  16. Um, he's talking about a scope... They're OK, but I couldn't get on with the eye relief. I'll sell you mine for a very good price if you like, some marks from use, but AFAIK perfectly sound in operation. Not used it for a while..
  17. Well these are all variable power scopes, so if you find 16 mag a bit much, you can just turn the mag down a bit 4-16 is a very good range too, enough for longer stuff but small enough to wind down should you need to.
  18. They were stabilising OK as the group wasn't that bad, just not as tight as the others. May just be that the T3 doesn't like the longer COL which I made those with. My Remington definitely DIDN'T stabilise the 75gr - not on the paper
  19. 16 power will be just the job, you can always turn it down. I might be buying one of those myself :-)
  20. I had a 22-250 as my first centrefire, and was a fan. Rifle was too heavy and chopped it for 223 before I started reloading. 204 for a while yet though...
  21. where did you get it from mate ? cant you have a word with them and get it swapped ? i no there is a lad on the bbs called the wildthing he as a 204 and he gets good groups with his. maybe have a word with him and try some different loads Got it from Dowlings Fieldsports (trying to become South Bucks fieldsports) They dicked me about all the time while it got sent to Highland Outdoors, while promising the earth, and then refused to help. Recommend to avoid them, and they wouldn't do anything to help me at all, so stuck with it. I do have it grouping well, just not the 40gr vmax a
  22. Yes I had a 243 for a while, shot well but was too plasticky and just didn't feel solid. I'm not too worried on the deer front tbh, it's a nice to have.
  23. tbh, sounds fine. Keep the shots straight into the deck in future really, but it's not a big deal. Glad you're enjoying your shooting.
