  1. Lol, oh sorry, thought you was saying I'm a newbie. To be fair if you see me falling over all sorts of roots and things and getting tangled in the proxy barbed wire sometimes, you'd think I was new to walking. :-)
  2. Lots of people "New to hunting" on this forum then, because it seems to be the same story all over. I may not be as experienced as some of the old hands on here, but I've got a fair few years under my belt, but I don't need experience to tell me there are less rabbits on my permissions, my eyes tell me that.
  3. I'm hoping that they breed well this year, there are some still on my permissions, just no where near the numbers there used to be. I've pretty much laid off them now In theory though, 1 pair can produce 1000 rabbits in a year (including their young breeding as well) Here's hoping that they start breeding like Rabbits.
  4. I was thinking it could be down to the wet summer, but some people are saying it is down to VHD. Hopefully it is just the wet summer, because it seems Rabbits don't come back from VHD very quickly.
  5. Just as the Tittle says..... They certainly arn't around Hertfordshire The numbers have been decreasing over the last 2-3yrs. I have a couple of permissions that no one else hunts on and they used to be overrun with rabbits, I've never hit them that hard because it's more for the sport and ferret food than any commercial need to reduce the numbers. This year there are hardly any rabbits left and it's the same on all my permissions, Very Very low numbers. Where in the UK are you and what are the numbers like?
  6. What do folk expect? It was for a Laborer in London, I work in the building game and i thought ALL Laborer's were Polish now
  7. Brilliant post mate, Really enjoyed that read, I Could actually read the sentiment in it. Luckily at a mere 48, The ending can still change to..... so eventually i returned to a Springer. As great as the HW100 is
  8. Glad you explained what you went through, it makes your opinion VERY valid, I'm lucky i still have both my parents at the ripe old age of 44, (me, not them) But i totally agree with your sentiments on prolonging life, always have since my Grandad died an undignified death, because the powers that be wouldn't let him go. What a strange country we live in that has an organisation with the Queens name attached to it killing animals left right and centre, and prosecuting people for trying to prolong their pet companions life, yet will let people watch their loved ones suffer a prolonged a
  9. Great rifle mate, i have one of these, Halfinch tuned and i am seriously thinking of getting rid of my HW100 they are that accurate. some complain about the weight, but you have a sling and the weight helps with accuracy. Anyway, they moan about the weight of a HW100 Have a bump on me for a brilliant hunting rifle.
  10. Thanks fry, That's what these forums should be about, sharing our experiences and trying to help others. More spring equals more poke as far as the Superdomes are concerned , but overall, as i found out, less is sometimes more. I did think by bringing the Superdomes down to a legal level, the other pellets would drop by the same amount. Not so! as the figures prove, Definatly more to getting power, and consistent power at that, than whacking in a bloody strong spring. The funny thing is, when i had finished, the spring had almost no preload, but the gun shoots really smooth and consi
  11. I absolutely agree, it should be a standardized test with a specific pellet, If it was say, AA field, my rifle would have been fine even though the domes went over. I'm sure the Police would use the most efficient pellet they can when testing, and i think that is only fair, BUT, they need to let it be known what pellet it is that they test with because it would be nigh on impossible for anyone to test EVERY available pellet. Pianoman, are Eley wasps a very light pellet then? as i understand it, light pellets= more power in Springers, Heavy pellet = more power in PCP's Strange how it wo
  12. Happy Days! Took just about one coil off, flattened and reground, all cleaned and re-lubed, now it is shooting sooo smoothwith these figures.... AA Field Crossman Premier Rws Superdomes ftlb fps ftlb fps ftlb fps 11.14 - 560 10.89 - 585 10.86 - 581 11.19 - 561 11.11 - 591 10.95 - 583 11.20 - 561 11.02 - 589 10.95 - 583 11.24 - 562 10.95 - 587
  13. ok, the latest is, I've cut just over one coil off the spring, squashed the last coil and ground it flat, Put her back together and I'm now reading. (Just the average here) AA field Crossmans Superdomes 11.65 - 573 12.05 - 616 12.25 - 617 So I'm still over, but I'm going to sort that now with a bit more off the spring, But the Good news is that the difference between the Superdomes and the others is much much closer. And she is shooting very smooth. Barry White, It would seem your theory was spot on, I could tell th
  14. Andy, i tried the other pellets again after the RWS, I even tried the Combro on my HW97 to check it wasn't that, and although they did fly faster from the 98, it wasn't by that much, certainly not over 100fps faster than the AA Field, they were about the same as the crossman in the 97. I tried them again in the HW77, same result! i can't understand why they are that much faster, I'll try some other pellets tomorrow but whatever the results, I've got to get the fastest ones below the 12ftlb limit, which means the AA Field will be really low powered in this particular rifle. Guess i'll j
  15. Thanks Andy, I will get a new breech seal, i only turned it round as a temporary measure tonight, to see if it made a difference. I didn't expect THAT much difference. I'll get and fit a new seal tomorrow, I'll throw a few hundred pellets through it, then start on the spring if it doesn't come down.
  16. I purchased a "well used" Hw77 today, and the guy in the shop says it was shooting at about 10.4 ftlbs, Quite low for a hw77, but it was very cheap, i thought it can be sorted. When i got it home and put it on the crono, it was actually between 9.7 and 10.3ftlbs, so apart it all came. It had obviously been worked on at some stage because it had a top hat, a nicely machined tight fitting spring guide, and one preload washer, the piston seal looked like an original, as did the spring, but i'm not 100% sure. I de-greased everything, polished all the parts that needed it and put it all back
  17. By the sounds of it, your doing a good job with your other ferret, just make sure the new one gets plenty of food, once the weight comes back, you'll find the coat and the whole look of the ferret will too. I took in a lost Ferret once, when I got him he was Skinny as a rake and pretty scruffy, quite a nasty sod too. But once he was well fed, in a clean dry hutch, he never even tried to bite me again, and he turned out as one to be one of the best workers I've ever had.
  18. Like we had to before the internet was Available. Or do the modern version of what we did, Join a forum and ask for advice. Oh, you have. Answer to the OP's question though, Ferrets rarely need "washing", I think Bathing might be a better word, I just keep getting this picture in my mind of a couple of ferrets spinning around in a washing machine. They are similar to cats, they will groom themselves, just make sure you keep their cages clean.
  19. Youve got all the messages haven't you? How's it going to look if they have said their thief of a son used their Credit Card, But it was actually paid by Paypal which you need an account and password for, so they don't want the item. Then when you send it they say the package was empty when it arrived. Wouldn't take much of a genius to see through that one.
  20. Someone trap a few and we'll have a day out with them, The best man is the one that comes back with the most fingers.
  21. Too true Craig, a lot of people do call it a starter rifle or youngsters rifle, Youngsters i can understand because it is nice and light, but if you start with a S200, what do you move up to that is "better"? I have an HW100, which is rated amongst the best pcp's available, But apart from a slightly higher shot count, and i guess the Cocking Mechanism, Not that the S200 is bad, It doesn't do anything i cant do with my S200.
  22. Why are the RSPCA Investigating AGAIN, I would of thought someone Firing a Crossbow in a country park would warrant a Police investigation
  23. Try training a spider mate, Its about the same as a taming a mink. Apparently!
  24. Well if the scope REALLY is the highest power you can fit on that gun, it's probably going to be worth a few grand on its own But guessing that you have been lied to about the scope, and what do you mean by a BIGGER spring? Length? Width? Power? The Hw95 is pretty close to the legal limit from new, IF it has "a Bigger" spring it could well be over, and that usually means a bit of R+R on B-Wing if you get caught. On the other hand, if its all pretty standard, with a half tidy scope, then thats about the going rate, Maybe a little too high, depends on the Scope and extra's really. Edi
  25. Oh dear! Why did you put an Ox in an HW35? It's not spring bound or it wouldn't Twang at all, it wouldn't cock. Do you still have the original spring? or was it Fooked? Th HW35 is a great shooting gun pretty much standard, Mine has only had a polish and a lube and it fires fantastically smooth with a reassuring thud and no Twang at about 10.26 with AA fields Maybe not the most powerful rifle out there, but the sum of its parts will give any rifle a run for its money imho, I can knock Bunnies over at 30-35yrds which is about the limit of my shooting ability anyway. Chuck the
