I had a postman's bike. Red and white with front rack, bought quite legally at a police lost bicycle sale. What l can't quite fathom is why someone in the lost and found property deparment didn't look at it and say " That's a post bike," and give it back to the GPO!

They do look like Victors. Maybe they have an application in the "cave-in" type sets but they seem designed for bigger moles than ours. I know l would lose those setting tools in about five minutes!? Funnily enough, l bought two Beagles when they came out partly because l was curious but mainly because they were on offer at seven quid each. As work-horses they are a bit delicate for chucking in a bag and rattling about with a bunch of conventional traps. Maybe it is just our local soil type that lends itself to neat rectangular holes but l've had a lot of success with them.

" l have my own traps. " said the customer. "I'll bring my own." answered l. Thank Heaven l did. The things he had were like medieval torture devices. They required seperate levers to set and were ,if not impossible , certainly very hard to set-up sensitively. In fact they bordered on being dangerous to handle !

Putanges - Made in Yorkshire!
comanche replied to Nicepix's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Yes, the ones l have came with coat of copper ,as if someone had dipped them in a copper sulphate solution for an hour. That"s about how long the "plating" lasted? I don't know if it had been done to protect them in storage or just to make them look pretty. They work fine but if l buy more l will look for stainless l think. -
Lures, flies, floats and anything else your making for fishing
comanche replied to kanny's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
kanny those plugs are little works of art! Ive been making bits and bobs but my floats ,while they work ,only look decent from a distance(except when they are hanging in a tree !). I suppose it's partly because l'm lazy and a bit of a numpty with tools but also because in my case floats tend to be fairly temporary possessions ! l'm determined to make fishing fun this Season and go a bit primitive. So l've made a horse hair fly line and some shorter lengths for fishing with a stick and hook lengths. I've even made some bone and thorn hooks but bone is not a good material for t -
I had an interesting wasp job today. An elderly farmer l do work for had always been proud of his conservation credentials but over the last couple of years has commendably embraced an even more fundamentalist attitude. Even he found a bird box full of wasps by his back door a bit too much to bear though. Knowing how anti insecticed he is we hatched a plan to move the bird box, complete with inhabitants into the woods. After suiting-up l placed a short ladder against the wall . This is when l had a moment of doubt regarding the wisdom of the venture, the wasps became a bit p

I had my first one at thexend of April. It was tennis ball size . It was a broom and stamp job. Ive done a dozen or more proper nests over the last two or three weeks but feel it could get reasonably busy when the Sun comes back.

Once gone ,use a scent disrupter to break the pheromone trail that lures em back every year. Cheap car air fresheners and household scent nuetralisers will do.

Trust me to come to the party late but l knew l had a picture of Ravioli/ Clarissa somewhere but have only just found it. She looks pretty healthy in the Zoo l recall from reading other articles her weight settled at 8-10lb under the record. Probably nothing to do with stress more likely she and the other fish on the tank were on a controlled diet balenced between keeping them healthy and not fouling the water to keep it clear. Also l expect the water in the tank was aerated and therefore moving so she would have been more active and used more energy than in

Possible appeal against record barbel by gudgeon ace!
comanche replied to comanche's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Either the captor or one of the Barbel Gurus let it slip when asked for a rent a quote. ..... l believe a few clubs have experienced a boost in membership enquiries ? But ,my post was worded theoretically. Its purpose really just to see if it would get a mention on certain specimen forums . Which apparently it did, briefly. As in , before someone realised the date? Actually very fair play to the captor of the record! -
So if the captor of three potential record gudgeon in one session from a public stretch of canal had his record claim rejected because he refused to name the water, his appeal against the acceptance of the "record" barbel might well be valid. The barbel a was accepted with the venue merely name as Southern River. The record fish committee rules do indicate that claims must be transparent to all so . The new "record " barbel was only half a handful of boilies or a fishy shxt over the old record anyway- hardly worth the fuss of claiming. The barbel record could crumble .

There are guidlines from pest control organisations. They are only guidlines not Law but l guess any one with business insurance would do well to check with their insurers before ignoring them. Without going into lots of detail . Is the job critical to food contamination or public health? Do you need to attend or can phone advice be given on temporary vermin proofing etc? Are staff and /or clients protected or vulnerable? Basically C19 has to be factored into any risk assessment and used to balence the need or otherwise for immediate control. Also what meas

Its classic American style bait-caster rod. It is designed for casting plugs and spinners with a small multiplier reel. One of the little vintage US bait-casters would set the rod off perfectly. Failing that one of the multipliers already suggested. An Abu Blue Max would be my choice.

I have to agree . I have to admit to little experience of other companies but that's because l have never been let down by Killgerm. Their service always seems personal and even though l must be a very minor customer they have done me a few favours over the years.

About two weeks ago l promised to have a wander around a nursery that raises native trees in search of a rabbit that had breached security and been annoying the client by pooing ,digging and nibbling wher such activities were not welcome. It was a paid job but the recent weather had somewhat dampened my enthusiasm and it kept getting put into the "maybe tomorrow" catagory. Today ,empowered by a sunny start and the threat of little more than a few showers l set off in search of The Rabbit. Well the rabbit turned out to be two rabbits. There are few burrows on the place and mos

Air rifles with enough power for deer hunting and military use were about in the late 1700s and some were repeaters. It has been disputed , but Napoleon is supposed to have considered them so fiendish that he ordered the execution of any enemy soldier caught carrying one. Lewis and Clarke used one on their journey across America. These things were said to produce 400-500 ft lbs and must have been a right bxgger to pump-up. But in those days people had servants for that sort of thing.?

An electrical factor should be able to identify and source one. Or you could try buying a small audio device or motion activated toy from somewhere like Poundland just to get the little speaker.
-
It depends on the handle shape and whether the butt cap can be removed but reel rings can be bought in smaller sizes. Or you could buy a sheet of modeller's cork glue it around the handle and rub it down. To save altering the rod irrepairably a lamb castrating band either side of the reel rings will stop them moving. Arry's suggestion of a bit of rubber under the reel foot sounds easiest . You could glue a rectangle of rubber or even epoxy a thin metal plate to the reel foot itself and shape it for a neat looking job.

I've had hundreds of letters from TV Licensing telling me l don't have a licence. Once in a while they say l am on the hit list and can expect a visit from an Enforcement Officer. Apparently l have been under investigation many times but they still don't seem to know my name. I've never had a visit in twenty years. I've also not had a TV for twenty years! I do feel a bit guilty about the environmental impact of the amount of paper they are wasting but as they have no right of entry or right to personal details ,l ignore them. Years ago when Television was in infancy it was obviou

Ajax was the name of a toy shop in Ilford. The BSA dating sites list CA and CC as a Cadet prefixes . From the picture the "CB" on your rifle doesn't match the script of the serial number. Maybe it was reserved for special order batches for certain shops? Possibly lower powered for boys' rifles . Relum did a lovely little "boys'" version of their Telly. Gold dust nowadays l believe ! A bit anoraky l know..?

A friend took this ,not me, but what are the chances of pressing the shutter button at just the "right" moment!

Looking back to the sixties ,things must've been harder for our parents than they seemed to us kids at the time.Trying to prise even half a potato for ammunition from Mum's clutches was nigh impossible .

Made by TJ Harrington, who specialised in making stuff made of die-cast grey cheese. Those of a certain age will recall the little pocket-money toy bombs they produced that used the same ammunition as Lone Star cap pistols. Great fun for two minutes . They also used the same grey cheese to make some of the worst fishing reels ever seen. So bad they are now considered (very mildly )collectable.
