    drop net

hi guys. since everyone else is asking questions, i'll join. bit of a rabbit problem where i work, little sods eating all the veg plots. trouble is it's a school and not allowed any kinda gun, and trap/snare wouldn't be too popular either. so from what i've been able to gain from here i think dropnet or long net would be ideal. trouble is i've absolutely no experience of netting, and i know it's an artform. i've already read the above posts and will be trying to make my own nets and kit, but what i wanna know is whether or not you have to have more than one person so set out the netting l

  12. welshound - didn't receive a pm mate. thanks for all the feedback, especially to rob (iguanaman) for his kind offer. sue - have decided kits will be best so the kids can see them grow and we've found something that they can see developing (i.e. seeds growing into an edible vegetable) is the best way for them to really understand and care for things. the animals we already have are a wonderful therapy for the pupils.
  13. Hi guys. as i've stated in previous posts, i work at a special needs school teaching farming, horticulture and all things to do with nature. at every opportunity i try to relate things to fieldsports and country ways of life. after some thought we are now looking to add some ferrets to our animal collection. the majority of the students are residential so the ferrets will be handled alot...and then some more! i've experience of keeping ferrets and working them, and will be taking some of the more able bodied students out to terrorise the rabbits on the school grounds! so if anyone in
  14. agreed, sure he'll find something else to get his attention soon enough.
  15. everyone has to start at the beginning though mate, and only way of learning is by getting advice from others, i think it;s important on a forum like this that those with more experience give their advice when others ask for it.
  16. hey guys. i work at a school teaching agriculture. problem is i've discovered rabbits getting onto polytunnel. i've patched it up best as i can but still they causing problems. but cos it's residential school there always kids about, so lamping or snares a no go. hate to think what head would say if i left traps about. so, any ideas?? would scent of ferret scare them off? ta.
  17. btw taz - if your gonna get job as a 'keeper, then 6 o'clock start will be your lie in! when i started as underkeeper use to be up at 4 on shoot day, feeding dogs, washing dogs, washing landrovers etc. then be working all day, take days bag to game larder, hang it up, then as the guns are having their evening meal, make my way back out to meet them for an evening duck flight. pick up, get dogs back, dry them off, have a quick bit of toast then to bed. and up again next morning for the same. you'll love it, i do!!
  18. hunters glory - it's much sweeter than proper guinness. stick to the black stuff if i was you.

  20. in the past i have been a member of both and i have found that if your only fieldsport is shooting then BASC are the ones. if you are into things plus shooting, hunting, ferrets, fishing etc then CA cant be beaten. the fundraisers, the political side and the welcoming feel are all greater with CA.
  21. as tom see's himself as a scot i see myself as welsh Cymro and would never class myself british. i'm not anti british or anti english but i'd never put my life on the line for a country which doesn't represent my homeland on it's flag. yes i have nationalistic beliefs and i'd love for wales to gain independence from britain. maybe then i'd sign up and put my life on the line for MY country.
  22. erm.... guessing it's a canadian thing! heres one for ya datdoorce what do you call a man with no shins....?? Tony...
  23. i know this can never be an exact science, but knowing the population of uk bunnies is one thing, but any real ideas what part of country has most rabbits? when i moved from wales to east midlands i was surprised by the seemingly less amount of rabbits around, though understandably far more hares.
