You got the Jack pyke dog bag or Game bag mate? How do you rate it as a general purpose field bag? Thanks Gaz

I am looking for a traditional over the shoulder game bag for general use. To carry battery and the odd rabbit when lamping, to carry ferreting gear etc. I want a good quality PVC lined bag preferably. Any suggestions? Are the Jack Pyke Dog Bags PVC lined? I can't seem to find out. Thanks Gaz

I have been looking at beddy whippets and fancied one on and off for a while just for mooching, ferreting and Lamping bunnys. Someone once said to me why beddy, why not straight whippet. A good one will do anything a small lurcher can. And I'm beginning to agree. Went out with a mate and his little bitch Monday night, 14 month old and 18.5" tts and she really impressed. She had about 5 runs 2 were difficult runs and didn't expect her to get them, 2 were really good runs and she was on there tails (one squeaked she got that close) and the last one she scooped up after a really g

Just don't know why people try to reinvent the wheel. What's a rotty x grey gonna do that a well bred bul x or deer x or alaunt x gonna do? Rottys are awesome dogs in the own rights, as are dobermanns - ive got 2. But FFS they have no place in the lurcher world. My doberman bitch is tenacious, she would course anything, she is agile, fast, Heart of a lion, good feet, she would tackle anything from a rat to a bull, she is obedient. Would I bring her into the lurcher world? No! A) she isnt a worker and Because there are already lurchers out there that are faster, more heart, mor

Are there many "game" Rottweilers about though?

Some cracking set ups on here folks. My ferrets are in a 21' x 9' stable, at the moment they are in a 4' x 2' x 2' double tier hutch and have the run of the building for an hour or so each day. I'm in the process of dividing the building in 2 so they can permanently live in a 10' x 9' enclosure and there is a dog kennel which I will let them use for sleeping in, probably put a smaller box inside it to keep the draft out. Then the other half of the building I will keep my 4' x 2' x 2' double tier hutch in for next year when I get a couple of Jills Gaz

Thanks for reply. I might bite the bullet and fork out the cash for a Mk3 (original not mk3m). Should last a good few years if looked after and as you say its an essential bit of kit really. Gaz

I'm just getting into ferreting now, got 2 this years hobs which I tried the other day for the first time (borrowed mates locator collar) and they both went down and had a look which I was pleased about as they're only about 6 months old. My big hob went down for a good 5 minutes or so but set turned out to be empty. Anyway, I'm looking to get a collar and locator box but just want a bit of advice of what's on the Market and what's the best route to go down? Don't see many second hand ones for sale and what I do see are expensive. I've seen the Deben Ferret Finder Mk3 and 1 x colla

pups with carpal varus (repeat mateing by breeder)
Gaz_1989 replied to turbotyke's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
your right i can be through poor feeding she was not feeding her pups right for one you can course this by mixing two different dry feeds as it cancels things out and she was feeding and chudleys mixed the vet said it is genetic so we contacted the breeder and sent her the pix of the pups legs and feet and she still bred from them she needs stopping Who's told you Carpal Varus can be caused by mixing 2 dry feeds? And that feeding 2 dry feeds cancels each other out? Would love to hear more on this... I don't feed the dried shit any more but when I did I would regularly -
Yeh I have got my ferrets in the part of the garden where the dog is. Thought it would help him get used to them and seems to have worked. He doesnt bother with them at all and will play with them in the garden. Gaz

For the first few weeks I handled my kits as much as possible, half hour in the morning, half hour when I got home and then an hour in the house playing at night. Once they were 100% with being handled I dropped it off slightly, I now get them out for 5 mins in a morning when I feed them and then usually 10 mins to half hour at night, sometimes they come in the house for half hour and play with the dog. I think once you've got the initial bond sorted then you only need brief regular handling to keep on top of it. But obviously the more you handle them the better. Gaz

When I got my big hob kit off a local lad on here, he advised that I squeak my lips when feeding or handling to get him used to me and in time he will come to the sound. Well I've always done it and now do it without thinking wether I'm feeding them or getting them out to play etc. Anyway, I've just been sat on the sofa with the pup trying to do some bonding and saw the albino kit trotting up the drive and under the car. Couldn't believe my eyes, I must of been careless when putting them away earlier. So I scooped up the albino and put him in the box. Then off to find the poley. I coul

Seems that the 2 together have sorted it out and for whatever reason don't want the third to join in. Gaz

She looks a well built bitch mate. Her markings are exactly the same as my dogs. All the best.

ive used the finger down throat method on mine as kits and they are sound now. handle them for about 15 mins every day, sometimes have them in the house for an hour with the pup.

Hows that pup bred mate? She is the double of mine in that pic!!

I posted last week about the play fighting between my kits, roughly 12 weeks old. Well the one which had the big scab in his neck I removed and put him in a hutch on his own. His neck his healing fine and the other 2 seem much happier and only play quite steady together, no marks or scabs. I've tried to re-introduce him and they both just pile on him and rough him up quite bad. Is this common? I've got no need for all 3 and only got 3 in the first place because I had 1 poley who was alot bigger than the albino I went to get so thought that getting 2 might divide up the rough
