    That's a male and about as big as they come. Moles are at their heaviest in spring coming into their breeding condition. They will also be moulting into their winter coats now so will look full bodied.

    I personally think it is a great and noble sport and find it strange that it is opposed on here for obvious reasons. The other thing that people seem to be missing is that when they say the bull can't escape; no but it can stand and fight back unlike the fox and hare and it's not outnumbered. It is down to the skill of the matador to keep himself and his horse alive. It's been ambition of mine to see a bull fight for years so I'd better get a move on before you lot get it banned.

    I'm in pest control and there's a difference between killing rats and killing hedghogs.

    But they don't have any use apart from their pelts that is why they are farmed. We don't want them loose in the environment to be hunted. You can't eat them.

    They are a pest to our indigenous wildlife thanks to the animal rights. They need to be hunted to destruction like the grey squirrel. As JBS says perhaps pelts is your thing. Each to their own. I'm sure there wold be many prepared to sign a petition against your chosen field. Maybe you should be more sympathetic to all aspects of legitimate animal exploitation.

    With a comment like that I know why your wildlife liason officer has gone back to college. Time for a new career me thinks :wacko: Killing is killing, protected is protected, shooting? trapping? What is he on? What college teaches that rubbish? Gamekeeper's (if it moves kill it) college?

    That's what I was getting at. I don't know where you stand with accidental non-target catches. For instance it is illegal to set spring traps in rabbit holes if there are known to be Polecats present. Do they mean present in the county or the wood you are working in? How do you establish whether they are there or not? There are a lot of grey areas in trapping legislation but I would suggest that if your targets were weasels and stoats then your tunnel entrance should be set to restrict hedghogs, polecats and other non-targets.     Like I said on an earlier post, If you've got mustelids taking your eggs or your chicks then fair game, go catch your vermin. If not and it's just because you've got a mk4 in the shed and nothing better to do then err .................. find something better to do. You can't eat them so wait until they step out of line. As far as I know the General Licences don't apply to vermin like weasels and stoats (and Polecats are fully protected).

    I certainly agree with respect. Everyone deserves that BUT ................ no talk about poaching? Now that would be amusing if it wasn't so sad. Hunting and poaching share the same DNA. Don't tell me it's because it's illegal either because so is hunting with dogs and I doubt that law is popular with many on here. Respect goes without saying, pointless cencorship of certain subject matter will only produce stale debate and a stale forum. This is a great forum let's not spoil it.

    I can understand gamekeepers, pest controllers and owners of fowl wanting to catch rogue mustelids but I'm not sure we should be catching them in spring traps for fun just because we can. I've always believed with the wildlife pests that a pest is just wildlife in the wrong place (judged by a human perspective). It would seem that in this case the weasels are in their own place and not causing a problem. Just a wildlife friendly take on the situation from a pest control and wildlife management specialist. I have no problem with you trapping the greys by the way (as many as you can)

    Case rested. Whatever the law broken, at least you accept my case that an action can be covered by another law without it being specifically worded. I believe a Local Authority would prosecute anyone found releasing a rat too.

    As I have tried to point out Matt it can still be illegal without a specific mention in the wording. There probably hasn't been a prosecution for releasing rabbits and neither is the Pests Act ever invoked but it could be.

    Just because something is not specifically worded in law does not mean it is not illegal. Having sexual intercourse whilst driving is not covered by its own law but I think you'll find the old bill would do you for it under "dangerous" or "reckless" driving. Surely if the PDP Act makes it a legal requirement that all land owners must destroy rats and mice on their property then releasing them without destroying them would be illegal. Likewise with rabbits and the Pests Act which is in effect the PDP Act for rabbits, if the whole country is designated a rabbit clearance zone then re
