  3. thanks for the pics and replies been googling and the curs, and squirrel dogs "feists" is it look fun to hunt with. what sort of height and weight do they go to looks like they can vary abit. i assume they are hard as nails and can live on left over scraps etc like many a dog had to years ago.
  4. ta dan i did read that they could be descended from cattle dog "curs" from england/europe mated to local dogs.
  5. heard of dogs that are stashed away in daylight and funnily enough are only "exercised" at dark. once i was buying some kennels and shown a lurcher that was kept in a garage in day time. and few years ago frm a local gossip ive heard of a wildlife enthusiast whos springer and lurcher were kept in shed and only walked at night. so i think theres people who dont advertise dogs they own , i used to sheild my lurchers kennel area from prying eyes and either went out at dawn or dusk.
  6. cheers doc so if it is true? what sort of hound/terrier cross was used in the start.
  7. looking at cur dogs and have seen online that they are supposed to be hound and terrier mix, is that true? i dont believe all i read online so was wondering what is in their breeding. some i have seen have looked like a docked tail racy golden lab.

  10. sorry no if you put the time in, obedience can control chasing instinct. when i first had my german shepherd x lurcher i could whistle her off fallow deer when 6 months old, when my then wife was ill and eventually when the marriage broke down an i got out less with her then the prey drive took over and then she was harder to control an took longer to respond. at the end of the day get the training in and spend time with the pup and yoou will reap the rewards theres plenty people on here with salukis and crosses that have trained them to a decent standard.
