  1. We were back out yesterday, back to the woods we did last week. We had arranged a couple of weeks ago to meet up with Floyd and his son but had to postpone because of the dreaded flu. The night before my daughter & her boyfriend asked if they could come along too, so there ended up quite a few of us - the more the merrier, though its hard to stay quiet We woke up to a blanket of snow and set off - the roads on the way there were very bad, as it was early Sunday morning, no gritters out and not much traffic on the roads to shift the snow but we managed to get to the spot were were fe
  2. What my previous job has to do with this thread I really do not know but I haven't worked as a medical secretary for more than 11 years  My last reply on this thread also, Im not getting into any arguments with idiots
  3. I'm not interested in the "standard" Nuv, only in the dogs I have.
  4. First sentence of the original club's (PTA) breed standard for plummer terriers: "Working role: To hunt ground vermin, going to ground when required, but to act as an all purpose sporting dog." http://www.plummerterrierassociation.org/T...%20STANDARD.htm Forgive my ignorance but this is what I made my rather all encompassing comment based upon: 'General Character A Plummer Terrier should be strong, hardy, active and adaptable, with terrier characteristics and as much substance as possible. They should be equally at home in the house as in the kennel, be highly intelligent, cour
  5. Tried to go to the one in london with my son, but couldnt make it as his boss a gamekeeper, wouldnt give him the time off but we did make it to our local one with both my kids, there was no trouble, just a lot of like minded people making their views known. I think I can spot a hippychick in that piccie too :secret:
  6. You have made some good points Voon, and a lot, in fact most of what you have said I agree with and I agree that there are many that do much damage from inside the breed by their actions and behaviour. As far as having a database of verified working dogs, that would be fairly difficult to operate, as everyone's view of what constitutes a good worker is very different, and how do you set a benchmark to verify them? Theres no way of measuring how good a dog is unless its actually seen in action by many different people. Most of those who work their dogs and breed for work, will ha
  7. I keep a few brahma bantams, but only hens. If youve a cock & a hen why don't you breed some?
  8. Some of the areas we ferret have drop boxes along the fenceline on the edges of the woods, there are still plenty of rabbits around, although they probably do help to keep the numbers down. Due to the fact they have to be checked very regularly, more often than not they aren't set as the keepers are too busy elsewhere to have the time required to do this. It hasnt really affected our ferreting, although we rarely get big numbers, theres enough for a bit of sport.
  9. Looks like a nice bit of land you have there - the weather was kind last weekend wasnt it, which always helps
  10. No he's catching one that thought it had made it to safety Wambamboo
  11. I like that piccie too, that little ferret is only a this year's kit; yesterday was her third trip out and she's shone from the start. She is the tiniest ferret I have ever owned, and would you believe the first hole she went down she had to be dug out holding onto a great big rabbit in a stop end - I'd never have believed she'd be capable of holding one, but she did it

  13. well at least thats what BD roughcoat said last night whilst he was pouring out a huge glass of "Paddys" whisky, after a couple of generous measures of Foxman's damson wine and a few drinks at the pub Well this morning I got the chance to put it to the test :drag: We had Deep dig, Peter & Tan with us today, Peter brought along his young lurcher Taz who'd never been ferreting before. Started off in the woods and bolted a few for Indie and Nuala, then we made our way across to some more open land to give Taz a few runs on his own. He did very well, and soon had caught his firs
  14. they're advertised here http://www.ukclassifieds.co.uk/plummer_ter...es-o229741.html edited to add, that was a year ago, so maybe its changed..
  15. Nice to see an old face back
  16. It is possible to get action shots with a non DSLR camera but it isnt as easy. The more expensive DSLR's will help you to get better pictures in bad lighting conditions, but you have to get beyond the point and click to do that and move away from the automatic settings. I currently have a Nikon D50, which Ive had for a few years now and its served its purpose well, but it only has 6 megapixels which isnt a lot in this day and age, and action pictures taken in low light (which I do a lot of) often turn out very grainy at higher ISO levels. I'm hopefully getting a new one soon and am
  17. I wish there'd been more warning of what was posted
  18. Foxdropper, I didn't - I don't own any blacks and I didnt take any with me, I took an adult plummer bitch and her pup, in the hope that I'd get to use her to ground. Deep dig had an adult black terrier out with him on loan, because his two are still only pups and it was his permission we were on that day. But unlike some I am not "racist" - I like to see a terrier work and I don't care what breed or strain it is; I was very happy to see the one we had with us work, and she worked very well - albeit at the same time I was wishing that it was mine that we had tried to ground in that particu
  19. Depends where and who you buy it from garthy, some of them go for over-inflated prices where the seller tells you "you get what you pay for" that definitely isnt always the case - there are a few genuine people around that ask a fair price for a pup - but there won't be many pups around this time of the year from working homes. What lines are your bitch from?
  20. NO THE THE C*NT WHO LEFT THE TYKE IS THE ONE WHO AINT GOT A CLUE , WORK HARD FOR SOMEONE AND HOW DID THEY REPAY THE TERRIER TIE IT TO A TREE , HOPE SOME ONE ON HERE NOWS THE BRAVE MAN , PASS THE MESSEGE ON , HOPE WHEN YOU TIED THE DOG TO THE TREE AND WALKED AWAY YOU WALKED AWAY FROM TERRIERS FOR GOOD ,BECAUSE THE LIKES OF YOU MAKE ME SICK YOU WERNT EVEN MAN ENOUGH TO PUT THE OLD FELLA AWAY very much agree seen it aswell myself mate and agree with you all DIG DEEP YOU LEFT A TERRIER IN A HOLE WHILE WORKING ITS QUARRY WHICH IMO IS WORSE jimb deep dig isnt the same person w

  22. Wouldnt really call it nice pain Kay but very memorable yes - how could I ever forget the results of my "memorable" pain
  23. A lad I know who keeps terriers had a couple of his dogs nicked in this area recently, the lads that took them had been doing some work on a house nearby. They managed to "find" his dogs and wanted a fair bit of money for them asked for him to meet them somewhere - he turned up with a couple of his mates and took them straight back - no money exchanged hands ...... I'd be very surprised if your dogs wandering about, IF they did have it originally. I drive near there on my way to and from work most days, will keep my eyes peeled. Hope you get him back safely.
  24. Any chance you could let me know how the pup you got from me is getting on?
