  1. If its got all its teeth with no problems, introduce it to a game of controlled tug, it will learn to grab and grip, it must be controlled and not allowed to rag the dummy and taught when to release and when to hold.
  2. Known Sammy for years, although we have never met, he is from Machynlleth, Powys, got loads of stuff of his, a gentleman and true Lurcher great, I used to write and phone regular and swap photos etc, I'm ashamed to say I havent been in touch for 12 months, old age and poor health restrict what he does, his dogs and birds have gone. His EDRD articles usually had a song in the title, "I Did it My Way" etc, he doesnt suffer fools gladly and has no time for those who wrote mainly about themselves to impress and often ill advise people, he wrote as it was. He is old school and a true Lurcherman.

  6. If you are just going for the lurcher and terrier show and there is a reduced entry fee thats ok, I went last year and apart from the dog show it was piss poor, all food stalls and not much else, I wont be going this year or again unless someone tells me it has improved and worth the entry fee, £13 i think it was last year, I dont mind paying but hate being robbed, £5 would have been enough for last years effort.
  7. As stated mate same Club show just change of location, all usual classes etc.
  8. Dont forget this is the New Venue at Cockermouth Auction Mart, just off the main roundabout on A66.
  9. We have business cards printed, for rabbit control, all our permission is on written sheets which the farmers sign, these are kept in a file, with pictures etc we take this with us when calling at farms, start where farmers know your current permission and spread out in that area, we have 4/5 connecting farms, go smart and be polite, no vans or cars full of dogs. Good Luck.
  10. Please to see you are doing well, like the silvers, my season has been poor, only reared 8 chicks, lost me good cock, lots of dead in shell and deserting nests, rethink and restock of cocks needed i think.
  11. Terriers, Lurchers and Whippet Show, Includes Bull Class at The Lakeland Livestock Centre, Cockermouth. Cumbria. CA13OQQ. Judging Starts 1230
  12. May have improved for this year, lots of food stalls last year and not much else, if it wasnt for lurchers and terriers you would have done the lot in an hour. Entrance fee was £11 or £13 i think, expensive as its no lowther.
  13. Piss poor last year, not worth the entrance fee.
  14. Looking at the pups in a litter at an early age you can generally tell the lighter boned smaller skulled, longer in the back will mainly throw the more greyhound shape, I have used this as a guide when picking cattle dog pups, and have selected the heavier boned, shorter coupled ones, they seem to throw more cattle dog then greyhound, they also seem to have the greater prey drive.
