  1. I have a pure whippet, and being only new to the game i reckon he is doing really well around the warrens. He listens and marks, and is always paying attention. Nice and quick aswell.
  2. I read somewhere whippets where created by crossing terriers and greyhounds. Oh and chalky, your what we call here in Aussie, a Smartass
  3. My bitch is from MOE Victoria
  4. Stabs is that you collie cross bitch? what is the sire
  5. Cheers for the comments mate. Im dont hunt pigs much at all infact that was my first and only pig, And in the end we got him. He didnt blow the dogs off and get away, so the dogs did there Job and we got the pig. It shouldnt matter what breed the dog is or how it catches the pig, I like to think that if the dogs can aid the fella to catch and kill the pig then that is good enough for me. I got my dog for rabbits, and its good to think if i come accross a pig i would have a chance at catching him. But most importantly I had a great day out that day no matter what game we caught to me
  6. I have only owned this one, but have seen others work. They seem to do well, however they dont seem as agile as the smaller dogs. This is my Bitch 29' to the should and she catches her fair share
  7. Here is my Bitch, 29' to the shoulder, still catches the rabbits.
  8. How do you hunt fella? Off the ute? or off foot?
  9. Mate i would love to see this fella in real life, and then flog him over the head with a cricket bat !!! What a deadset Wolly
  10. I like the deerhounds, lovley looking dogs.
  11. If you are after just foxes from what i have seen and expereinced, the smaller dogs that are quick on the turn seem to do it best. My mate has one that is 27' to the shoulder i think, and he is awsome. However out west on the open flats i got too watch some deerhounds work, I think they are in a league of there own. The way they hunt and chase is awsome, and the way they hit and kill is definatley a sight too see. The one thing I have learnt from my Staghound is that they need plenty of time, so i can only imagine that the deerhound would take longer. I found it best to give her the
  12. Do you not agree that the terrain you hunt should dictate the size of your dog? Down here you have 100 mtrs at most before a fox is in the scrub. My big staghound will get on there ass and just put the foot down and then the fox hammers through a fence and gets away. She is only a pup though but it would be good to have something with abit more agility to pull them up first.
  13. Your missing out on the magic mate, I like me ferrets enough to not want to lose them. Put heap of effort into there work, and when i take them out i know i got good workers. No need to start from Kits again
  14. Yes they can be, When they get bigger around 5ft i find they dont close fast enough, thats when you make em into a poke net
  15. The Deerhound had hold of that pig long enough to run in and grab the backlegs and flip it, then it could of been stuck. And i never said I was a serious pig hunter
  16. Good effort mate, Those hares are awsome. My Bitch down here is almost catching them but i tell you what they are trully a remarkable animal and my fav animal to chase with a sighthound. Lamped or not the dogs done well to catch it. (after the cannon shot ofcourse, we all take canons lamping )
  17. Duckwing, I use them a fair bit. The beauty about them is they can be placed on hard to reach holes, IE Ones of 5ft electric fences. Also they catch the double bolters, This ones from when me and Tomo went out,
  18. Are your working your lurcher this season colin?, Well done a top days effort
  19. Well fellas, the initail tital was intended as "Hard Aussie Hounds" meaning i should of said "Hard Aussie Sighthounds" Becuase i reckon this bunch of dogs are deff hard in the sighthound department. I have worked with the meatheads on a couple of occasion and never caught a pig with them though. I love watching the work to find the pigs, Sitting on the back of the ute with noses in the air. To me its all about how the dogs work, Personally i like my bitch, she has a chance at catching me anything i point her at. Be its rabbits one day, or a few pigs if i ever get the chance.
  20. Awsome, we have Fallow over here and the fallow rut is allready over. Can you tell me what type of dogs you where walking when you found it. I have a deerxgreyxwolf that i am keen as to get onto the deer when she matures abit more.
