  2. I put a few wires out just then, Plenty of wind and it has started to rain. Hopefully the rain dies off and the wind keeps up. Found the problem with my snares, the eye in my tealer is to big, Knot is pulling through. If i put another knot on it seems fine, hope it works.
  3. Very nice mate, they use them on the pigs over here, Gotta be a tough dog to lug on those pigs
  4. Well done mate, whats her breeding
  5. Hey guys, I have been snaring a few bunnies recently but i have checked my snares on a couple of occasions to find my brass wire missing, but the peg and tealer where laying there. Could it be the rabbits busting my knot off? its strange because I have caught a few rabbits without the knot busting off?, anyone got any ideas.
  6. I have been bowhunting for a number of years now. I shoot a Darton Scout compound bow set at 55 lbs. I really enjoy bowhunting, being quiet and enjoy a stalk. However i often find the animals alot smarter than me and am often empty handed on a stalk. The closest i have gotten to a fox is 20 meters, the thing i find hard is knowing when to shoot. He had know idea of my presence and i thought he would come closer however the wind changed and he was off. Alot of times this has happend to me, I have been 30 meters to wild goats but still have not had that oppertunity of a perfect shot.
  7. Talk about give it to the poor bloke

  10. Hey guys, I havent been out ferreting for a while, but i though it would be good to get away and give it a go this weekend. So i chucked the ferrets on the ute and headed off to a nice little property with a few bunnies kicking about. Was a good day, but very windy and i noticed alot of the rabbits would not bolt. And we missed a few because of this, in some locations we could not dig but when we got the chance to It was worth it for another rabbit. Took one of my mates out and he did really well, even helped me gut them so i was happy with taking him out. We got to the fi

    polecats

The only benifit i can see from Breeding a wild polecat with a ferret is the genepool. I know over here our ferret genepool is rather small and it is presumed many ferrets are relatives. But if there was no need for this than why bother with a wild animal. When hundreds of years of selective breeding have been into these animals to domesticate them, I dont see the need if this was the case
  15. Brass seems to be the stuff the Professionals use. 6 strand brass snares are good. There are some threads on this site and some very clever blokes that are masters of the game. Listen to them and you wont go wrong, like Jake has said PegandGun is one of them. Wont be long till you making and snaring, its curtainly is fun and quite an acheivment have fun mate
  16. Sure is mate, you will take manyer rabbit this way. Have caught a few since i have gone to the longnets. Especially the quickset method, Myself havent used traditional. Love it to death
  17. Thanks guys, unfortunatly i didnt take her in the Foothold trap i had set. We had a decent dump of rain the night before, and it washed mud under my pan. So it didnt fire !! The fox was digging in my dirt hole and took the bait. I have been thinkin about the dirt holes and on my next set, im going to use some feathers for a visual attraction. Im starting to get a few ideas and hopefully it will give me a few more foxes. The Tuna Oil is a great lure, and worked a treat for that vixen. I still have alot to learn but i will get there Cheers Guys
  18. Rabbithunter you have any luck with those fox wires?
  19. Well done mate, good to see you using those longnets. Are you in the South Island mate? What interest me is that i though ferrets where illeagle to keep as pets?, I understand if you would keep them anyway. I would if i was in the situation Very Well done mate

  22. Hey guys, After some help from Woodga and Peg i got into making a few wires for some fox. I finally had the oppertunity to get them out and use them. I had been running these wires for about a week. And the landowner was checking them daily because i had no transportation. Well today was my lucky day, i got a phonecall as soon as i got back from work and i raced over to the property, Nice looking Vixen, Im rather happy with myself
  23. I hope woodga snareman or peg say something, Because i have read about fox snaring on here before, and i think its illeagle in the UK to set snares for fox at 6' because of badger??? Someone help him i dont know ...
