  1. I would have thought it would help to get it to rot down quickly Molly same as comfrey does plus its got to be good plenty of folks are into seaweed feed for their gardens to get away from the chemicals. I cant wait to go on the road and sample some of the seaweeds theres one or two that sound well tasty
  2. Good crack Ditch you wouldnt get me in a bog with a stag either mate unless hed been shot first. Its not unusual this time of year to find reds wandering a fair bit looking for hinds weve the odd one or two that travel during the rut id have thought due to em getting to much grief off bigger stags ive seen em up to ten miles from where they normally are and always solitary stags,
  3. I see Harry has supposedly shot two hen harriers be interesting to see the outcome
  4. Ive tried as much as i can of the wild plants round me over the years and the last two ive really gotten into it learning for myself medicines as well as foods too many to list. some of my favourite plants are Uncooked. Garlic mustard[jack by the hedge]ramsons, chickweed, japanese knotweed, sorrel, reedmace hearts, horse radish,borage.pignuts.salad burnett, alexanders[buds],wall pennywort, dandelion, lime leaves, white clover. cooked. Comfrey, reedmace, burdock, alexanders, chickweed, dandelion, fennel, ground elder, meadowsweet, sow thistles, nettles, tansy, yarrow. Its a work in progress and i try
  5. Deffinitely work but if your on about fitness for big rabbits and big land then roadwork with short bursts of speed is helpfull if your not getting distance in when your out local. A lot of the old boys did it when i was younger and there dogs performed well enough even though that was about all the exercise they got except for the weekends . I find it beneficial for when the dogs getting fit after a lay off thats the only time i ever put roadwork in just to get em fit before they go out. I reckon you can do to much roadworking and would prefer hunting anytime but if its a bit of extra
  6. There was hare coursing and hare hunting: 2 totally different things IMO. Spot on Skycat
  7. Partridge- Bittikanni Seagull - Chaipani Snake - sap Hare -kenengra , sally or morgan Fox - charlie Badger - billy Rabbit - drummer or shushie Hedgehog - hotchi Deer - starnie Pheasants - long tails or forkies
  8. Besides eating them in the field they make good chutney goes well with cold meats or cheese
  9. Ive been to the odd place where the dogs made em look easy and been to others where the hares made the dogs look easy winter hares that have had some are no pushover especially when their running the top of the land and the dogs having it hard
  10. Theyve even been round the aerodromes asking all the pilots to keep an eye out for lads coursing
  11. Cook em well as theres something in them that affects your blood too but ive eaten em for years nearly every day during the winter. I prefer wood blues for taste but you dont get the amount like with field blews.
  12. Checked the blewie beds near me still early yet been good so far with the other species and these early frosts bode well for a good season on the blues i hope so its one of my major source of income at this time of year
  13. Reds are very deceptive when running theyve an incredible stride when they want to turn it on, myself id have thought roe over a short distance then red but to me the fastest deer is always the one with a dog up its arse
  14. All sorts jigsaw you can eat em raw make sure you get the furry inner skin off though comes off easier when there roasted or boiled put em in stews make stuffing for birds give em the kids dipped in sugar the list is endless
  15. Seen it many times when keepers get fed up with folks on their land easiest way to stop em coming is get rid of the reason there tempted in the first place. Id have taken advantage of the situation and gone round with the dog picking up
  16. Anyone been chestnuting yet ive been to a few spots thinking it would be a bumper crop this year like the hazels but what ive seen up to yet is very dissapointing a lot of nuts are small and falling well early
  17. Thems lawyers wigs as you say shaggy ink caps is there usual name now i dont bother with em much as they go down to nothing there o.k to eat the caps dont bother with the stems and tasty mixed with scrambled egg and a touch of garlic and as Ditch says beware of the smooth variety common ink cap i believe if you eat them and drink anything alchaholic it can give you a bad turn. They dont last long before they go to mush better to pick the little buttons and once youve found em they will be there all winter having a few flushes a lot grow on the sides of roads dont be tempted to eat them they
  18. It will start to die back if we get a winter this year so cut and dry some then just make with a bit of boiling water to extract the flavour then add vinegar and sugar. Makes a tasty cup of tea too
  19. Deffo not magics the effects would have been longer ive seen dogs thats eaten magics and acid at the festivals they dont make em ill just a little spaced out. Terriermaid your on the money a lot of saliva then he layed down like he was gonna die on me but i kept encouraging him to keep walking and he stopped after about half an hour. That was a week or so ago now and apart from him loving a bit of hendrix no ill efects since. Ive never known a dog attempt a live one these were well dried out on the commision roads so will have to watch he hasnt got a taste for em I wouldnt have though
  20. Nice one Lennard love the Galgo mate
  21. My dogs have always lived in as pups and the pintching food i can live with a good lurcher should be an oppertunist its a case of making sure he cant get to anything. As for the chewing of toys better to learn him that he cant touvch anything he wants every time you see him try let him know in no uncertain terms hes doing wrong he will click in the end plus before you leave him give him a decent workout they dont pine so much if theyve had attention and are tired from a walk.
  22. Ive been taking the rough dog of mine up in the pinewoods a lot lately and the other week im sure he ate a dried out toad whilst i wasnt looking they were everywhere and after twenty or so minutes of being out he started to shake and his eyes were like saucers proper dilated ive never known a dog eat a toad before but having experimented in all things halucagenic in my youth im sure this is what hed done. the effects lasted about half an hour and bar from him being a bit unsteady on his feet and being a bit freaked out he soon came back round anyone else ever known a dog do owt like this befo
