  1. It's 'MR RAT' to you Logun........... Anyway, why won't the landowner let you bait? He (or she) can't be too bothered about foxes if they are putting restrictions like that on you. Or is this just another one of those threads?
  2. Nothing wrong with Middens baited with wild animals. Wild animals are exempt from the Animal (By Products) Regulations. A nice heap of dead rabbits or deer guts will pull 'em in.......
  3. www.fourteenacre.co.uk For genuine fenns and BMI magnums. Don't be put off by the website prices; if you want a deal on traps contact John. I've never seen a bad word said about John or Fourteenacre.
  4. There is a really good plan for a mesh bender in the new book by Fourteenacre. One of many good reasons to buy it.
  5. That, is out of order. You were invited to join the forum even though you aren't a member of the site. The forum is there to discuss mole catching and mole catching equipment. It is NOT a sales outlet. The fact that I am able to offer some surplus equipment to fellow mole catcthers at a good price has nothing to do with the forum itself; you seem to have got into a right tizzy because I offered to find out how much it would cost to send you a probe out to France to replace that bit of old sheep fencing that you currently use. Your reaction is totally out of proportion, and frankl
  6. I think the best thing to do in this situation is to make contact with the keeper and hope that he understands the situation. You are better off having good relations with him than making an enemy of him. Depending on the deeds of the property, the occupier may not have the right to allow you to shoot winged vermin. The only pests that the occupier has the ultimate right to 'take' are rabbits and hares (Ground Game Act 1881). Make friends, and try and get the keeper to understand that the farmer has to do something to protect his crops and that you'd rather not upset anyone.
  7. Is this road registered? Get some pictures uploaded using photobucket.
  8. Swampy, the figures quoted relate to Halal meat, rather than certified Halal meat. No, it makes no sense to me either. Fact is, all New Zealand lamb sold in the UK is Halal.
  9. Taken from the New Zealand Herald.
  10. Swampy, 95% of meat produced in New Zealand is Halal, and 100% for export is Halal. This is because they export all over the world, and Asia is a large part of their export market. I was originally informed of this by a New Zealand farmer, and later had it confirmed by the New Zealand authorities. You may choose not to believe it, but I can assure you that it is a fact.
  11. ATF, to answer your question, yes I would have a problem with deer being dispatched by the throat slice method. There is a huge difference between a proper throat or chest stick, and a slicing cut that cuts the windpipe. I also have a big problem with the industrial scale ritual slaughter is now taking place and the lack of proper food labelling. Stressed meat tastes rubbish compared to properly handled and slaughtered meat. If people want to eat meat that's been produced as a result of some religious ceremony then that's fine. Import it from one of the fly ridden, hygiene fre
  12. Swampy, I'm well aware of Halal slaughter; I've witnessed it first hand in UK slaughterhouses. As for my comments about New Zealand Lamb, just google it for yourself. The Meat & Livestock commission in New Zealand is quite open about it. And please don't accuse me of making ignorant posts. I'm not a racist, but I believe strongly in animal welfare. Ritual slaughter is wrong, and there is no excuse for it whatsoever in the UK. The fact that all UK prisoners are fed Halal is well known and well documented. I'm happy to refer you to the Humane Slaughter Association, who will co
  13. Any trap you make would have to be submitted to FERA for evaluation before being added to the Spring Trap Approval Order. The Collarum is the only spring powered snare that you can legally use in the UK at the moment.
  14. It's not just Muslims. All prisoners in the UK are fed Halal meat.
  15. You are right Rio, all meat is killed with a knife in the UK. The difference is that 'normal' meat is stunned first, and isn't subjected to being restrained while some foreigner says a prayer over it prior to slicing it's throat (as opposed to sticking it). My issue with Halal isn't that it's killed with a knife, it's the restraint and general lack of respect for the animal prior to actually killing it. Put it in a stun box, stun it, shackle it, and stick it. All very quick and humane. Put it in a crush, turn it upside down, mumble some foreign mumbo jumbo over it before you slic
  16. I get really pissed off with folks telling me that I'm cruel because I kill things. I always do what I do as humanely as possible, and yet people still buy New Zealand lamb because it's cheap, and do nothing about all prisoners in Britain being fed Halal crap. Did you realise that all imported New Zealand lamb is Halal? Think about that when you buy your joint of meat for sunday.
  17. All UK prisoners are fed Halal meat. It's a fecking scandal in my opinion. Anyway, I'd feed 'em nowt but British bacon sarnies for all three meals a day.
  18. I'll have a dig around here when I get 5 minutes and scan them for you. It might take me a couple of days, moles are going nuts here at the moment.
  19. Five year investigation? Fook me, they haven't spent that long investigating Starbucks
  20. You mean RSPH Level 2 which took over from BPCA part 1 ? If so, I have some here somewhere. BPCA Part 2 is now known as 'Advanced Technician' and is a whole different ball game......
  21. Fourteenacre are a good supplier, with an outstanding reputation for selling good quality gear with very good customer service. I would avoid unknown suppliers of moletraps as they are more likely to sell cheap and nasty far-eastern manufactured traps like Proctor Pest Stop, The Big Cheese and Primrose (to name just three). Also avoid the 'crap-man' at all costs. You should expect to pay £4.50+ for small quantities of Duffus type traps. Any cheaper than that and ask yourself why. Magnum Trap company also sell the Fenn scissor traps and the 'Talpa' which is a good quality copy
  22. That's a fair point Woodga. The plastic traps certainly show signs of wear and tear after a few years. On the up-side, they handle the harsh conditions of some sites like poultry units very well, and they are easy to clean and disinfect. I've got some Pro Victors and other wooden traps here, but if used in dirty conditions they never come properly clean again.
  23. The plastic break back traps can be very effective and inexpensive. They also whack 'em hard : It's always worth tying them down though to stop the trap and/or rat disappearing down a wall cavity.
  24. For a moment, I thought I'd stumbled into the running dog section of the forum then. Do we really need all this crap on here? This is, and always has been one of the nicest sections on THL, let's not let it slip into the overall mire that seems to plague other sections. Someone has come on and asked for advice. He's been given some good advice, and from what I can see there is no need for anyone to get on their high horse about it. New pest controllers and/or molecatchers come and go. They always have, and they always will.
