  1. Yep, the BMI Bodygrippers are a very versatile trap in the right hands. The trouble is; I'm a child of the Fenn era, and as much as I like to think of myself as open minded, I still really like chucking the ole Fenns down within a simple three sided wooden tunnel. Having said that; I did a squirrel job in some forestry a couple of months ago, and set a couple of bodygrippers on some windblow trees and had good results with them. I really need to get a few more and make better use of them.
  2. In wire cubbies, usually with a slice of maize cob threaded onto the trigger wire.
  3. No reason not to use that setup outside except the cost of loosing it. Fenns in tunnels outside, or cages at a push. Kanias inside, or Bodygrippers at a push.
  4. Flat packs are good traps that are easy to use because they need little or no tuning. The only draw backs are the finish; which was very poor, and the fact that they stamp the traps with their website address. Here is a picture of a year old FP trap taken about two years ago: I can't really knock the Flat Pack traps because they are a good trap to use, but like many other professional molecatchers, I now favour the Bethel Rhodes trap which is what Flat Pack copied in the beginning. The only downside is that you do have to modify and tune the BR traps.
  5. If you find yourself on Exmoor then try and get a day out with the Tiverton SH rather than the D&S. You'll find them a bit wild, but they aren't quite as busy as the D&S and do things in a more traditional manner (if you get my drift). For Foxhounds, try a day out with the Dulverton West, again, much quieter than the Stars, but similar country.
  6. I've not been a Mod for a year or more....the idiot hasn't been on fro l9ong....but I have put in reports and I urge others to do the same.. I've done that myself JD. The last time, he got a three day ban, and came back a reformed character - for a few days......... I've given up reporting stuff; THL seems to be pretty much unmoderated these days. I've now taken the lead set by LeBrac and blocked the dick. I suggest others do the same.
  7. I've never had a fail with a Kania, or a foul catch. I don't modify them in any way, just screw 'em down to the end of a board and add a tunnel. I'll dig a picture out.
  8. I much prefer the Kania in lofts. One of the great things about Kanias is that they are either not caught, or they are dead. No late night calls to deal with 'rattling' sounds from the loft. Also a lot easier to set up than a Fenn. My kanias are board mounted with a wooden tunnel. With the Fenns, you have to have a tunnel and set the trap in it whether it's in a loft or not.
  9. Nice to see Brady mentioned. My late uncle Phil was the last of them. He sold the business to Parsons, so I doubt the modern stuff is as good. I well remember visiting as a child and hearing that he'd just turned down a big order from a london gunmaker because they were busy at the time and he wasn't prepared to compromise on quality for the sake of one order. He used to have a slice of bread permenantly fixed down on his lawn and would knock off woodies with an air rifle from the kitchen window. I still have a slip gamebag and cartridge bag here that he gave me.
  10. Ah, them..... Yes, I had something of the sort in mind. Thank you again.
  11. Interesting again, thank you Moxy. Any chance of a picture or link to a Clevis hitch/union please? It's not something I've heard of. When I said bird wire, that galvanised rope is exactly what I meant. The plastic coated stuff is only any good for tethering mouse boxes - old billy would make short work of that stuff. I've an idea in my head now for knocking up some stakes with eyes....... just need to do a bit of work on it and I think it could be a go'er.
  12. Well lets see it. Probuck, have you not noticed that everyone is ignoring you now? It's dicks like you that are dragging this forum down. Stop for a minute and think about the crap you've been posting lately.
  13. That is pretty much what I had in mind Moxy, with the exception of utilising the handles on the Talpas and having a clip on system so that the wire isn't permanently attached. What anchors do you use? Rebar or something else?
  14. Give the White Horse at Exford a ring and have a chat. They organise hirelings and will sort you out, but you will need deep pockets.
  15. Photo would be much appreciated Moxy. As you say, I don't think that every trap will need 'bolting down' on every job; the Talpex type seem to be more vulnerable to theft than the Duffus, so I'm thinking that on badger infested farm jobs (that's pretty much all farm jobs down here) I may try and protect them a bit more. I've had some reasonable results with the few I've tried out so far, so I think that a dozen or so Talpa traps will be a useful addition to the armoury when dealing with those awkward moles that think a Duffus trap is just something to be stuffed full of soil.
  16. Interesting Moxy, thanks. I'm thinking that there is only so much you can do. If the buggers chew through the cable I've got here, then I think I'll just have to let them. I normally have a quick squint around Itchy, and often find the odd one. To be honest, I spent more time looking for this particular trap today (over an hour) than I would normally; mainly because it was only on loan and the guy I lent it from can by a right tyrant at times and may cut my tea and biscuit allowance the next time I'm brave enough to visit him. Loosing a good Duffus that you've spent som
  17. @ JK...... Yep, I guess that will be 9 in my box when your visitor ever arrives...... Anyway, I happen to have a roll of nice shiney bird wire (the 2mm rope) here. I've just popped up to the stores to check. I've got wire, I've got crimps, I just need to decide on the anchors now. I was thinking of something simple and retrievable. Any ideas? Ideally I'd like to be able to chuck them in the buckets along with the traps without adding too much weight or bulk. Pogos maybe? Any suggestions or links to suppliers gratefully received trappers.
  18. I was thinking about 2mm stainless. If the black and white b*****ds can chew through it they are welcome to the traps! Out of interest, how do you secure yours Moxy?
  19. Please give us poor elderly folk, an honest account of the contents,..if it is educational,.I shall start saving for a copy. Many thanks,.Chalkwarren.. My copy arrived today. I read it while I munched my lunch in a layby. Yes, it is that brief. I think it's clearly aimed at the complete novice, and gives clear and concise instruction in the use of Talpex style traps and the Duffus. Lots of B&W photos, and some bollocks, but then I suppose that's par for the course these days. I'm a sucker for any mole related media, but I'm afraid it's not a book I would recom
  20. Yep, I think that's the way to go. I've only got a few; a good mate loaned them to me to try out where the old duffus gets blocked. I've always just reset the trap and maybe added another when this has happened in the past, but I'm open to new ideas and thought I'd give them a try. As it happens, this was a job that I really should have pulled out of a few days ago. Went back on Tuesday, and the client pointed out some fresh activity on the edge of a disused railway embankment It was fecking freezing at the time, and I just whacked a couple of traps in. The Talpa just happened to
  21. Is this for mole traps Tom? If so, I prefer a good bucket. I've had bags in the past, and they offer little or no protection to your traps in transit. A good 10kg bait bucket keeps your traps away from contamination and protects them from damage.
  22. All the Probuck (Walt) bollocks on one side; would you fecking believe it, I lost a Talpa trap today complete with mole...... Another £20 odd quid gone thanks to the black and white vermin. Oh, and the nearest sett was about 350 yards away. Had a good look around the hedges and even checked the sett out to see if I could find the trap and no luck. Walt can you settle this once and for all; are you a pest controller or just a hobbyist vermin controller? Or are you just a dreamer? If you are a hobbyist, why do you keep telling us all about the 'jobs' that you get? Do you charge
  23. Site is, forum isn't. Can't say I blame P really; it wasn't really very busy and was costing him bandwidth on his server. Nice while it lasted. The directory is still performing very well for me, as I'm sure it is for others. It's a very well put together site. Anyway, who was closest?
  24. I'm glad you find me 'prodictable' Probuck. I'm just off to dig out my OED to find out what it means.
