  1. I would agree,, apart from the frost,, a light frost on surface grass fair enough but when its a deeep frost with solid ground beneeth the surface then it aint worth it. Just smash there feet up. I'm not saying run a dog in dangerous conditions, but I go out on full moon, windless nights ! Of course you don't get the bags, but at least you're out ! And the dogs are getting a run, rather than lying in their kennels ! To many people make excuses NOT to go out ! Cheers.
  2. thats your own choice when its your dog that might get injured but different story when the dog is only on loan to him So when IS he going to take it out ? Lurchers, by the very nature of their work, are going to get injured if they are worked, even in the best of conditions ! Lurcher owners get slagged for "summer hunting", yet worry about working a dog in the winter, "the season" ! Of course I put the dogs health and wellbeing first, but don't wrap them in cotton wool ! They are "working dogs", after all !! Cheers.
  3. Grounds to hard, grounds to soft, grounds to stony, moons up, to frosty, no wind, to much rain, not enough rain, etc, etc, etc, !! FFS !! Get out whenever you want ! Don't worry about getting "the perfect night", or you'll NEVER get out ! Cheers.
  4. bloody hell chartpolski, youl be giving the half wits on here cold sweats using words like elucidate, could you throw some light upon what this means...just to clear things up Well; Johnathan, like you, seems to be an educated man ! So lets keep the conversation between people who understand ! Let the "half wits" look on and wonder what life would have been like if they had went to school !! Cheers. Chartpolski, there are several mistakes in your post. Firstly, you appear to be unaware of the purpose of a semicolon. Secondly, there should be an apostrophe between the 't' and
  5. look am not trying to be nasty all i have asked for is some friendly advice and all you seem to be doing is taking the piss ok. I have had no experirnse with the pure bred saluki n who are you are you to say that my dog is badly socialised when you know nothing about me so can you keep your own comments to urself plz Hold on, mate !! Read back thru' the thread, and you'll see it wasn't me who mentioned "socializing" your dogs !! Cheers.
  6. Is it just me, or has there been some severe editing of this thread ? Cheers.
  7. Yes, Yes and Yes to your three questions ! But that is only my oppinion ! Cheers.

  9. Johnathan, could you elucidate on your experiences with the Arabian Gazzele Hound and the Scottish Deerhound ? I've heard they are heavily into the pedigrees of the American Coyote Hound; along with Borzoi and Whippet. Is this true ? Cheers.
  10. Patience, patience, patience ! If these are your first running dogs, then I think you have picked the wrong breed, and trying to bring on two pups only doubles the problems ! What you have described is typical of Saluki's ! In the right hands, they can be great dogs; in the wrong hands, a nightmare ! And if you wanted lamping dogs...... you have made a big mistake !! O.K., the Saluki lads will say they can lamp..... but there are far better dogs for lamping than pure Salukis !! Cheers.
  11. No offense but that seems like a bit of a backward approach to breeding and the biggest reason our uk deerhound types don't match those in the US and AUS. Surely better to breed deerhoundsX to deerhound X's worker to worker, if that had always been the way we would still have something of the qualities that deerhounds and greyhounds of old once had when they were all coursing hunting dogs. What is the point of going to first cross time and time again when the quality of deerhounds and greyhounds for hunting gets poorer with every generation. You could be right; IF the breeder
  12. If your bitch is "a tad small at 31" and 130pns, (lb's ?)," then perhaps it's an Irish Wolfhound you have, not a Scottish Deerhound ! Cheers.
  13. I'd be supprised if there is any genuine working Deerhounds in this country now. I would think the Doxhope dogs were the last ones worked regularly to a good degree. That doesn't mean we shouldn't use the Deerhound in Lurcher breeding ! Look for a well bred Deerhound from working breeding, even if it hasn't worked itself, and put it to a good class Greyhound, and give the pup the best upbringing and entering you can; and you should have a decent dog ! Cheers.
  14. It's OK to have as many dogs as you want, as long as you can afford to feed them properly, can afford the vet bills or insurance; can give them proper kenneling and have enough work for them or can give them the excersize they need. I've had three dogs before, but prefer to have two; but thats just my preference. Cheers.
  15. Mmmm..... thanks So most of the medals they display don't really mean anything...... Philip has at least five campaign medals that he earned during WW2, but, yes, most of the others are honary. Cheers. charles did northern ireland .. edward and andrew the falklands will and harry the lastest campaigns .. Charles, Edward and William have no campaign medals. Andrew has the South Atlantic Medal, and Harry has the Afgahnistan Medal. Cheers.

  17. I would imagine the only senior royals with campaign medals would be princes Philip, Andrew and Harry, as they have actualy been in campaigns. The rest of the medals will be ones that the queen has awarded such as the order of the garter, RVO, etc. Cheers.
  18. He's clearly said, twice, NON/PED ! Cheers.
  19. Just another couple of pics, before I take her out lamping; it's blowing a gale here ! Cheers.
  20. have you had her from a pup mate double of a bitch i sold up england way very good bitch to Yep, mate. Got her as a pup from a well known guy off here. And she is also a very good bitch ! Cheers.
  21. proper old fasioned type lurcher very nice Heres a pic of her sire, Flynn, a 1st X Beddy/Grey, (I'm sure Pat won't mind me putting a pic up ! LOL !); Pre ban, of course ! And heres a pic of her dam, Maegan, (I know Dave won't mind ! LOL !); Cheers.
  22. This wee bitch is only 1/4 Beddy, her sire is a 1st cross Beddy/Grey from Heartbreak Fell Kennels, and her dam was Deer/Grey X Whippet/Grey, but she threw to the Beddy/Grey side. Five year old now, and done everything asked of her; Cheers.
  23. At the end of the day, NONE of us are vets, and can only give you advice based on our own experiences ! If you are worried, see a reputable vet, and explain about the other dog coughing before yours did. Hope it OK. Cheers.
  24. Benylin, steam and whatever the vet sells you will only aleviate the symptoms, not cure the problem. Rest and time is the only cure for KC, it's just like us having a cold or 'flu; lots of things help, but nothing cures it ! Cheers.
  25. KC is rapidly transferred from dog to dog, and your dog most likely got it from your mates dog; so I'm not saying your house needs cleaning ! LOL ! I've had two dogs get it, and a third dog in the same kennels not get it ! But it pays to clean everything out anyway. Hope it's nowt serious and the dogs O.K. ! Cheers.
