  1. Horrible stuff, I can remember my collie cross getting tangled up in the stuff years ago. He was a capable jumper for the most part but sometimes when jumping gates he would sometimes spring off the top of them, well on this day he tried doing the same with a bit of loose barbed wire. Ended up falling arse over tit and the wire was wrapped that tight in the skin he was almost suspended, he could only hold himself up by the toes of his back legs. His skin was wrapped that tight I could not free him, in the middle of nowhere with nobody in sight. I made the decision to wa
  2. Would you say the dogs are better today than they've ever been mate?
  3. What breeding is Tikka mate, lovely pup mate, looks like he'll be a powerful dog.
  4. Looks a topper pal he does, take it you've made a few repeated matings as it's clicked?
  5. Like a thoroughbred pal, best one you've owned mate?
  6. Don't want to change the topic but in the 90's I had a video of a coursing competition and I know that there was a collie cross in it and some other mixes, I'm not sure if there was saluki crosses in it but from what I recall the final was a big powerful dog against a smaller black & white bitch, one of the pair was the collie cross I believe. The VHS must be years old now, I doubt anyone on here will recall it tbh.
  7. Did you breed the dog fella, you got any pics?
  8. Would you fancy one on any antelope species in the world mate single handed, them Pronghorn are meant to be the best middle distance runners on earth.
  9. Aye but the Gazelle has plenty more in the tank sir. ?
  10. Take some dog to catch a Thompson's Gazelle I bet, that girl can shift like.
  11. Levels above it's pure dam mate, must admit those types look crackers.
  12. I get you fella, if your dogs are lacking a gear you'd just source a fast coursing type wouldn't you.
  13. Honest question mate, do coursing lads still end up going back to greyhound now and again as well as saluki or is it not needed at all these days.
  14. Chuff me Phil that is the spit of my 3/4 collie cross that was handy on hares and I mean a clone, he was bred in 98.
  15. Crazy not to breed her mate if you had the chance of course. ?
  16. As there actually been many pure lines brought over here at all? If not isn't the gene pool small, could explain why some folk have needed to add different running breeds and crosses now and again and of course greyhound adds obvious speed.
  17. Stop trying to pull the wool over their eyes. ?
  18. Did you end up breeding her fella, what lines was she from?

  20. There's an American article online about pures and it talks of running hares and antelope. It basically says the faster types are used for hares and the deep winded dogs are used for gazelles and such as even the fastest of saluki's are nowhere near as fast as those.
  21. But like I said surely they're just a line of UK saluki's when all is said and done? At the end of the day us British are some of the best with dogs, is it any surprise that maybe we could improve on the middle eastern dogs? Maybe that is a tad unfair because it's all about horses for courses and perfecting the type for the quarry you run.
  22. Have you seen any run? I imagine there's a lot of poor lines that made their way here mind? How many that have only been run in the show ring get labelled top coursing dogs?
  23. But come to think of it the line bred coursing dogs are basically a type of saluki perfected over here aren't they? Other breeds may have been added on occasion but they are that diluted that I imagine they have no bearing on performance anymore, don't most lads cross back to saluki anyway at some point?
  24. No fella I wouldn't know where to start tbh, just wondering who has run any from decent lines and are they really on par with the UK coursing dogs. I've made my mind up though, I'm going to get a saluki based runner if and when the right litter pops up. I'm going to say bye bye to working away and working weekends so will have time to bring one on and get back at it.
