  1. i want to learn the differences between the net types, materials, how they're used, why you pick which type of net. and i want a lot of pics. we don't have rabbits that warren, but i want to learn about netting because i believe it could be adapted to different game over here. i don't know enough yet to even know what questions to ask. so any good websites that will do a fair job of educating a yank?
  2. thats what i thought, i might be wrong but didnt Dan say (outcrossing).? because they way i see it, how can get (gene defect) from to differnt breeds or lines of a breed, when not related.(to close)? Maybe i got it wrong from the thread.? look at it this way mastiff & dane both carry for hip dysplasia even if it don't show. you breed them and tell lies about hybrid vigor and sell a bunch of pups to nimrod owners. they wind up having to put them down or pay for very expensive hip replacements before the pups hit 2 years. another example in the USA would be show type grey to show deer b
  3. have read that gamekeepers will plant black rabbits to see if they're being poached. is this true? if so did they use regular domestic rabbits or cross a domestic w/ wild? either way what breed of rabbit would have been used?
  4. horses can take care of themselves and will stomp a coyote to death. if they share the pasture w/ the cattle they will protect them as well. at most you may want to consider adopting a BLM burro as they are more aggressive toward canines than the horses. if you do happen to shoot one or two hang them on the fence where it will be most visible from coyote eye level. they will avoid the property. also NO ONE introduced coyotes. they moved in all on their own. after they banned private baiting )poison baiting)their population exploded because there were no wolves to stop their spread.
  5. not timid at all because no one really fishes them. most are caught by people fishing for something else. corn is illegal here, but have got the green light from the fish cops to use cornmeal in homemade baits. the people going after them on purpose are mostly shooting them w/arrows from compound bows. my daughters like to go fishing and a simple technique that they could use as well would be great. thanks for averything so far. the lake is about 10-15 miles long by about 2 miles at the widest. not sure about depth.
  6. over here we use salt water rigs and live bream or shad upto 2# for big cats on 2/0-4/0 circle hooks. we sometimes will trim the tail a bit to put more scent in the water & cause more action. float about 2 ft down in summer (deeper if it gets real hot) and about 2 ft from bottom in winter. we chum w/ soured birdseed. throw about a half dozen-dozen golfball sized gobs out in the area you plan to fish the day before. can also use soured feed corn (maize i think y'all call it) but they can actually get a good feed on from that and may not bite. don't know that this is of any use to you all,
  7. it'll mostly be lake fishing and since no one really fishes for them here (except for a few guys using bows) they get pretty good size on them. looking for VERY basic techniques as i'm not a real commited fisherman.
  8. you know Mickey Finn, if we could get all the british & irish sportsmen to move over here we might be able to save it for ourselves.
  9. hey Stuntman you know how i know you're gay? your @$$ tastes like cum
  10. USMC gayest bunch of straight guys you'll ever meet our unofficial motto: if you can't kill, it fcuk it
  11. turnout it's not gay if it's rape
  12. now i have to start working to get a coursing season on antelope, mulies & elk
  13. Sean i'd love to but can't right now or for a while. we are having a house built in UT so money is going to matter for a while. and then i got to get my boys settled enough that momma isn't in tears when i call before leaving work. in the mean time, i take him & my inlaws neglected lab w/ me when i go into the mountains scouting for the bow elk season. and every so often i take him out specifically looking for jacks & fox. it's putting the edge back on him & me.
  14. i agree july or walker. now a word about the video, it was manufactured by PETAphiles to discredit the training & feild trial pens. the first "coyote" in the opening sequence is too big for a south eastern coyote as it's bigger than the damn hound & these lines normally run 45-60# (20-28 kilos) most likely is a pet wolf hybrid. second there is almost never any contact between the dogs & the coyotes as the pens are required by law to put cage trap type refuges regularly spaced 1 per 35 acres.
  15. it's been a while but some will remember these pics grey fox his very first coon a kitten less than 10# his 2nd 20# coon and i'll see if the wife can dig up the pics of the first one ALL GAME TAKEN IN ACCORDANCE W/ THE LAWS OF THE STATES IN WHICH THEY WERE TAKEN
  16. dan you're frigging making me homesick. i haven't heard of any monkeys & footballs in 4 or 5 months. the 2X4 thing turned me on a bit too. for you gents that liked the Custer pics, he had a pair of scotch staghounds(1 dog & 1 gyp) given him by Queen Victoria that he took out west with him. the dog ran off from the fort one day out the gateand out of sight but followed quickly by a young cavalry trooper. when he caught up to him the dog had killed a wolf single handed (not the big canadian monsters but a plains wolf of 50-70#). the same dog caught & tripped an adolescent bison
  17. come on, no one going to point me in the right direction. it's not like i'm going to fly over & steal your favorite spot.
  18. got a descent rod that i occassionally use for catfish. i need some websites to teach me how to get started on carp. here they are a pest so they will all be consumed. so i need to know how to catch them and what to do w/them after they're caught. i figure you gentlemen & ladies have been at this far longer than us over here so you all should be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks all.
  19. thanks all i had a feral born ferret as a pet in high school but have never worked them. i find the idea very interesting and hope to eventually give it a go.
  20. this will probably sound dumb to all of you here but i know feck all about working ferrets. can a ferret be used in brush piles & places other than a warren (our native rabbits don't warren or even burrow)? can they be used on something besides rabbit? if so what? thanks all
  21. can't speak for lure coursing on your side of our pond, but over here it is done pretty much entirely w/pure AKC dogs. the rules don't help the damage done by breeding for show, they penalize a dog for cutting corners or grabbing the lure. and the saddest part is these knobs think the lure coursing is preserving the working ability in the dogs.
  22. i'd have to see that to believe it. it'd be just like using a great pyrenese dog for hunting. in fact i'd believe the akhbash before the kangal.
  23. most hog hunting sites will have something to say about working bulldogs
  24. i wonder if you could use them pure for ferreting (if say your wife don't like the smell of ferrets)?
  25. you know stewie, i always wondered how deerhounds came to be, now i know. love the avatar.
