Personally I think anything with less than 25% sighthound isn't a lurcher, just a mongrel, BUT thats just my opinion, is there a right answer??? If you added bull into a line of greyhounds 30 generations back and bred greyhound to greyhound since is it a lurcher, or a greyhound????

Hi Borat, I think you misunderstood, I meant a reverse 3/4, so 3/4 collie, 1/4 greyhound put to a collie producing 7/8 collie 1/8 greyhound...........

Now we all know that there are and have been reverse 3/4 of some crosses but at what point does the % become too diluted for the dog to stop becoming a lurcher? For instance if you had a reverse 3/4 collie greyhound and mated it to a pure collie you would have a dog with an 8th greyhound, would you class this as a lurcher? Personally i wouldn't........

Oh that bad lol, well I hate not finishing things so I will read on, though you say they are bad you still read six of them lol. As this thread was about what too read and not what not to read, what would you recommend Simoman as with the book collection I would say you are the one to ask? I'm a glutton for punishment, had them bought for me. As I mentioned earlier in the thread Harcombe/Darcy and Chapman are the way to go, very well written........

Anyone who knows me knows I am an avid book collector on anything related to hunting, I have 6 Frain books and without exception they are all shite. Does the guy actually get out as I have never seen a photo of his dogs working? His book on the Patterdale terrier shows he has never kept the breed as he confuses them with fells/lakelands and the biggest joke is the drawings he has the audacity to add his signature too............

Do some more research mate, there are a few geninue cases that DO include evidence, i.e bodies. Some beleive, some don't, i'm guessing even photographic and physical evidence wouldn't convince you

I prefer a dog of 25/26tts BUT height has little to do with the dogs ability to catch all quarry pre-ban. Drive, speed, constitution, strike, heart and various other attributes need to be there to make a good dog. I have seen little 21 inch lurchers taking bigger quarry pre-ban and to look at them you would think a strong breeze would blow them over, I have also seen big 27tts 90lb monsters that weren't worth there chow.............
