    Yes, Marksmen are better than average shots to give better long range capability as you say. Snipers are a different kettle of fish. These guys shoot from huge ranges (over a mile). Pretty much Special Forces.

    Snipers are generally for static, long range shooting. Their rifles are long and heavy. A bit of a disadvantage in FIBUA, CQB or Skermish situations.

    Shooters good enough to become snipers are rare and expensive to train and equip. Also for every sniper you need a spotter.

    I'll do that. Iv'e just done the TX and if the 97's spring is anything like that, it'll shoot much better.

    Mine's darkening up nicely but I've only put 3 coats of Danish Oil on it so far. The grain's coming out nicely.

    That blue laminate 97 looks beautiful. I like the 97 but I'm struggling with mine. I can't get it to shoot consistently (me, not the rifle).

    I know everyone thinks their own rifle looks best but that TX is awesome. I need a few more coats of oil on mine to get close to that.

    No, what I'm saying is, based on the pics above, there's not a lot between them so why is there such a price difference. I can't comment on the PS as I have never shot it. The TX is an expensive rifle so for me it would meed to be stunning. Plus of course there's the left handed issue.

    I recommend a rangefinder because it's a bit of a dark art to range using the reticle. I'm sure you would agree that it's very important to kill cleanly. Rangefinders help you put your pellet where you want it. Also, the further out you reach, the more steeply the pellet drops (especially in .22 or above at sub 12lb).

    If they're so similar in performance, then it comes down to cost and personal preference (looks, ergonomics, shot cycle etc). Assuming you can only get one, is the PS worth the extra money? I've just bought a TX and I could't believe how well it shot straight out the box. All my other rifles have needed 2 or 3 frustrating hours working out how get any reasonable results but the TX zeroed in 6 shots and I was hitting golf balls at 50m (7 of 10 shots) within half an hour. The rifle makes me look far better than I am. Also the PS doesn't come leftie.

    I had a go on a HW110. It's just as good as the HW100 but a ton cheaper (£650ish brand new, Hawke Vantage 3-12x50 £120, Air bottle 3L for about £150, Eyoyo Laser Rangefinder for about £70). Most Gunshops will let you try before you buy. Take your time and try as many as you can. There's plenty out there for that budget. Best of luck mate and "Good Hunting".

    My 97 is the same as the top one. With hindsight, I should have got the Sporter stock as the synthetic thumbhole is too skinny for my big hands.

    It's .177 the same as my 97. I shot 2 groups of 10 shots at 50m. Both groups under an inch and a half. I have only managed that once with the 97.

    Yes the TX is very similar plain. If it darkens up like that I'll give it a whirl.
