  1. I personally just like their attitude, and how they are to have about as dogs. Different strokes for different folks but I find I just get on with bull blooded dogs.
  2. You know what I mean ? you might be a pain in the arse but a little bit of saluki goes a long way, not too much mind ? Also depends how fast your bull x is ? I don’t reckon this pup will be slow.
  3. This dog didn’t jack on my intended quarry, she caught them but she didn’t have the legs or wind for what I run on my ground. She got out run too much for me but no doubt would have caught more on smaller fields and was a handy dog on other quarry. Ive got a dog here now, looking good on a certain quarry but not started on my main intended pass time. If he don’t like that or isn’t fast enough but keeps on going like he is he would make someone else very happy. Horses for courses and all of that.
  4. I told king exactly what that bull x would and wouldn’t do mate. Her quarry wasn’t my quarry and vice versa.
  5. Yer I get tht to a point but at what point would you be happy breeding ? And is it always age or more numbers ? Genuine question
  6. Bloodlines ain’t bull shit sweet cheeks ? just look at any animal breeding in any species. Scatter bred you might get lucky, but you tip tings in your favour if you breed them right.
  7. It’s not jacking though is it, it’s just become a c**t. Agreed that may well but be a reason to not breed the dog, but it ain’t got much to do with a lack of heart, dogs just a knob. Do agree if it decides to not take its quarry but takes other stuff then aye that lack of heart. The whole deer thing is a bit more complicated and I agree there is a lot more difference between a dog that pulls deer and one that pushes. That’s why I stuck to talking foxes as I think that’s more cut and dry ?
  8. Aye not talking about sheep chasing or owt. It’s those ‘unexplained’ jackings I’m interested in. I’ve just never come across it. Could usually always see the cracks way way before just folk have made excuses and lied to themselves
  9. Yep, had that! I was just genuinely interested, I’m not saying it don’t happen but I’ve not seen it myself or had any mates who’ve had it happen. A dog just decide to become a coward or it’s not for them once they seem fully wed to the job.
  10. Not saying they are mate, just genuinely curious if anyone has known a well tested and seasoned dog in terms of numbers just give up heart. Not down to owner f**k up. By what you’re saying it would make little difference how old a dog is as they can always jack. Which is obviously true, but I have not met a good dog with a good owner which has done a lot by end of third season which has just lost heart and walked away in its next season on day a fox. All dogs hve a breaking point as you say, but if it’s a continuous plane of work, do you know more what you have at age six then age four ?
  11. Be interesting to see if anyone can actually answer the question though .
  12. Yes that’s very common here - “if you’re looking for x cross I would go to xx dog 100%” and they’ve never even seen the dog in the flesh. Makes it more awkward reading if you have seen it go, or not as the case may be ?
  13. Nobody in particular mate. I was just seeing if folk were still capable of having an actual discussion with various opinions without it just being a slanging match.
  14. Interesting thoughts ...... Just for the record I’ve never bred a litter of Lurchers in my life ...... and the only bitches I have in my kennels are 13 and 6 months ? I had one dog I thought was worth breeding off, a cracker, and I waited until she was a ‘proper’ age and lined her, she was dead shortly after. Pretty much regretted not breeding her earlier and getting some pups on the ground. It left us with one animal out of that litter left which we bred (don’t worry she was five ?) and that’s mam to my pup. Anyway I digress. I see plenty of folk advocating using certain dogs
  15. I was reading some bits on here this morning and it made me think about a few things. You always hear it said on here and in general that it is a borderline criminal offence to breed a dog that is not “well seasoned” which appears to be 5/6 year old and up. Two things came to mind. Firstly there will be plenty of dogs that are running well enough at six that have never been pushed and have done less graft than another dog which is three. Secondly - had anyone actually know a very good dog which was flying after three good seasons where it had seen plenty of work, that then
  16. They look inside a deer fence ? And those parkland trees. Also it’s grazed down hard and browned which is unusual for deer especially in a year like this where it grows well.
  17. She’s still here at the moment.
  18. Aye looks plenty of deer in that deer park ? ffs ?
  19. If you want a bit of saluki, use a good saluki bull grey.
  20. And a cheeky bit of fillet. Forest beef!
