That’s what I used to like about taking out the little x bred hounds; they’d hunt anything but usually in an order of preference. And you could tell what they were on by the way they were speaking / hunting. You could hunt fallow bucks or mice with them ?

Lots of folk feed their dogs on a lot of pig meat.

Rabbits are a lot easier to kill in rough grass then short grass in general but there are always exceptions.

Just had a couple hours out with a member off here and the bushers, probably saw 15 -20 rabbits, as it’s a nice little spot. But would have seen half a dozen roe. If I go lamping tonight I’d see five deer faster than ten rabbits. Tend to just enjoy hunting the bunnies now with the little dogs and don’t put a lot of effort into trying to kill them.

Pulling your leg mate don’t worry. im sure there are still a few about but they used to be in every town and you could go out most parts of the country and get a decent enough bag of rabbits if you put the effort in. It’s a real shame, bunny bashing is great and hunting them daytime in a good spot is the sport of kings.

Aye there are some pockets mate, there are bits up your way I can head up to for a good couple nights and days and see a bunch, but even those are a lot less than they were. And anyone who says that nationwide we’ve not seen a massive decline in rabbits..... is in denial. I know you always like an argument but you know what I’m saying ?

Yep. All of the real good rabbiting dogs I’ve ever seen, had seen and were seeing regularly, a hell of a lot of rabbits. I just don’t think you can show a dog the sort of work on them you could before. 20/30 rabbits used to be a local walk for a couple or three hours. You could ferret 30-50 regular etc. Dogs were catching 100 rabbits most weeks of the season and plenty of lads doing a lot more. That’s what makes a great rabbiting dog. Those times are gone.

She went to a mate, seems to be doing everything he wants. Rest of the litter know the craic to but do pull on a bit.
