She’s about 9.5 months I think mate. So far I’m very pleased with her. She is the sharpest dog I’ve had for her age. Has made four solo catches and two doubled up so far whilst out on walks. A very hard and driven bitch. Was good to see her turning and running on a couple of rabbits, she impressed me, extremely quick, running aggressively, crashing cover etc. Downside is I worry she isn’t going to make old bones, came back last night one stopper pad ripped off etc.

Nothing worse that a thick person trying to sound like an intelligent person by using big words .....

Thought I should probably have a go at a couple of rabbits with her. Like an endangered species here ? first one she was all over like a rash but a bit over excited and it made cover, the second one she ran like a pro, had it out of cover a few times, struck and lifted it but cartwheeled into the hedge and lost it. Third time lucky .... she ran it well, picked it up, killed it ? put it down again and then thought she’s better retrieve it. Considering she’s never seen a lamp or run a rabbit before, I was pleased.

Once when I was in Romania, I was driving a little Citroen hatchback along some country roads and ended up engulfed in a see if sheep and goats and stuff ...... worked out it was the bringing down of the stock off the hills, a massive convoy of animals with the shepherds in tow, with their dogs. I ended up floating along with the herd until they pushed them off the road for the night and settled down. Went to find the shepherds and after a bit of banter, our came the red wine and spirits and a tape of Romanian dancy folk music was found and stuck on the cars tape deck. We had a right knees up,

I’m not really there for the fishing mate, more for the craic with the lads and a good sit around the fire having a smoke and a beer. Even brought a runner this year and had a quick lamp!

Sounds like id better pick your brains!

That’s the next trip

Some lads I know in the states only hunt them to tree them. Means you don’t need to worry about having tags for them!
-
Hungary will deffo feature. Not too worried about the chasse etc abs similar. Most of the ground here is sewn up wirh the hunt, keepers, police, pikeys, wirh helicopters, drones, nv, thermal etc. And we still hunt! I fancy my chances both lamping and day time. Local knowledge is deffo key and so I’ve got a while to plan!

They mostly tree.

I bet your mate who you say has wolves is around where I used to live, up in the mountains along the polish / Slovak border. Proper mountains ! Re LGD - common in Europe but also standard in the states and Canada. Main breeds are Anatolian shepherds, Komondors, maremmas, kangols, akbash, Great Pyrenees, and various mastiffs. I’m fascinated by them and have spent some time around them.

Aye I used to ? went to the first couple, think we hosted the second in Wales. Went to the last one and will be going to the next. A top bunch of lads.
-
Not hunted there really mate. But have traveled around every country in Europe apart from Russia and Ireland; quite extensively in a former life.
-
Totally agree, but I don’t think many Hungarian officials are stalking here mate etx. End of the day folk can send PMs or even just chat in general. Have hunted wolves a bit in Slovak / Polish high tatras, with little success ? also messed about chasing deer, boar and kamzik? (Mountain goat). Pissed about a bit in France, hunted a few bits in Spain, gone coursing, digging and bolting stuff in Hungary etc
-
Nothing fluently ? But can get by in English, french and German, and understand a lot of Welsh. And used to speak half decent Hungarian, serbo-Croat and a bastardised Slavic patter made up of Slovak, polish and similar ? now it’s a bit rusty but I’d pick it up quick again. Then odd phrases in a lot of others, usually related to women, and beer.

Working beddys ? ? ?

Yes I actually have mate ? I lived in Hungary for a few years and also Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bosnia for little stints. What I meant re the law - is that although on paper in some country’s, some things are illegal, there is still a thriving culture of hunting with dogs, especially in the rural areas. Hungary is a good example of that!
-
I don’t use Facebook, maybe I’ll have to. Lived out there for years abs there is some great hunting
-
I’d be up for coming out next winter to test it out mate! Sensible and speak a few languages etc. Also make a decent cuppa and bacon roll ?
-
I guess I’m thinking back to a time when there would have been several members on here who had gone over and done various bits. Really interested in some french / Spanish / Dutch coursing, would like to beat on a Monteria, go bushing with podencos, hunt pigs anywhere, bush or dig foxes anywhere, lamp anything ? would love to do some bits in Scandinavia as never hunted there.
-
Why do I have a feeling that this thread is going to produce very little ?
-
Thank you, planning on it. Would like to see some of the Spanish bits.

Nothing is impossible

I wouldn’t worry too much about that. Have hunted with dogs in France, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia etc etc. Forget the ‘official line’.

With only a few weeks left in the season, I’m starting to think to the next one. I fancy doing something a bit different. My plan at the moment is to take the dogs and head over to Europe for a little adventure. I have a few contacts; but I was wondering if anyone has any tips, events, contacts, suggestions or thoughts ? I’ve got plenty of time to plan and I’ve been over to Europe hunting and taken dogs before so I know the score a bit. Edited to add - I’m interested in any kind of dog related hunting with my own or other folks dogs and I’m pretty sensible, experienced and have plenty of
