    Yes NOISE??

I use Subsonic virtually always these days (Winchester & RWS), however when 'we' had loads of Rabbits in South Devon 1995 until 2003, I used to nearly always use Winchester Lazer HV, and to be honest the rabbits didn't seem at all bothered by the crack delivered by same? I only started to routinely use Sub's because of new Neighbours, Horsey folk and so on, as they probably were best served by not knowing I was about, and this remains my M.O.

The Rabbit population here has just about disappeared ? Where back in the day I could shoot 20+ in 15 minutes, now it takes me 1/2 hour to find one in the 'best' spots and only after dark? How is it in your 'manor'? The Foxes have (not surprisingly) also reduced in proportion, these days the only place they are plentiful is in & around reared Pheasant shoots.

Rabbit numbers are way down. New diseases and buzzards I blame.

Old keeper friend of mine use to drum into me to look after the rabbits.

    They will feed you.

Make you some money and keep the fox's off yer birds!

Yes, Winchester Lazer, belting round ?

i never liked eley they seemed greasy i and my rifle prefer winchesters and i will never shoot copper tipped ccis they  richotteos  where all over the place

    I don't mind greasy.

Any heeled bullet cartridge is lubricated externally and can get everywhere and gum an action up. That's 22 for you.

  3. Is complete.

I missed a few but made a few good shots.

I don't think I will get anymore rws HV ammo again, to many are sub sonic! Wish I could find some eley local.

Oh and it disturbs other rabbit none, no worse than a subbie! What most forget is the racket made by the bullet hitting anything which is usually louder than the subbie leaving the gun!

Anyway another thing about rabbiting is sometimes Charlie comes and takes a look and one did, a mouse squeak and in it came. Shot through the heart in thick cover it crashed about and then silence. The keeper will look for it tomorrow.

    The rabbits.

That’s it Nathan, as you know, if they hit the ground running they’re soon gone, and if you can’t see them land, you don’t know where they’ve gone. They can be fifty yards away in no time. What make is the gun Nathan?

It's an Aya cosmos single 12g.

It's full choked which is good on long birds and Charlie but makes me mess about on close pheasants trying to no destroy the meat and miss!

I really don’t like loosing things that I’ve shot but it does happen quite often especially with pheasants, it seems if they make the hedge back or a bit of ruff they some how disappear

It's just one of those days. Do enough and it will happen sooner or later.

  6. Bit of a sad morning out after pheasants.

I lost two birds today ! Feel quite bad about it!

It all started by pricking a bird, a runner that made it to a hedge. I worked the hedge slowly keeping Jess close to me and sure enough he pops out and runs. A quick snap shot to the head ended that.

    This is the bird.

    IMG-20181124-103400927-HDR.jpg

    Then it got worse.

I missed an easy rising bird in front of me! I hit a going away bird hard that glided to a pit hole, never found it!

I missed another bird! Pricked another bird, never found it!

I spent an hour looking going around and around in circles encouraging Jess to look for the birds, she is no spaniel or lab but does have a nose for pheasant and I was sure she would find something but no nothing!

I left for home quite disappointed with myself. I know this sometimes happens but I never like it.

It was nice to see some birds about on this local farm I am blessed with permission on.

    Bloody amateur!

Good grief! 200 yards? That's not lr even HV! That's gotta be WMR but then I've never seen WMR subs! My longest confirmed with 22lr is around 90 yards. Don't even think I'd attempt that range with my mouse gun ?

Admit it your in cahoots with the devil ?

I was only fooling at that distance.

However, a crow is welcome to a 22 LR of any type and at any distance from me!

These topics normally go the same way. Underdog has a 22lr. He tried HV rounds in that rifle.

Then....da da daaaa....recommendations for other calibres instead. :D

    ?

I've got a bunch of centerpieces under my belt and don't plan on returning soon for a whole host of reasons.

Chiefly I just don't need to shoot beyond 100yds anymore and if I see one beyond that I enjoy getting closer.

I also got fed up with the pressure of shooting a live target at long range. Especially with aging eyes!

I could say I have gone full circle and that circle won't be completed untill I am pure black powder and things that go twang!

In that case I’ll have to wait until I manage to get myself a few pigeons, I went out today to bait up for a fox and see if I could get a couple but not a pigeon to be seen,  did see a few pheasants, partridge and teal but been Sunday I let them be, never pulled the trigger but when your surroundings are like this sometimes that doesn’t matter ?

Mmmm wood pigeon, I’m thinking pigeon breast, cream mash and red cabbage, that’s it I’m on the pigeon hunt tomorrow, nice work U,

Not a fan myself but when minced with some bread, black pepper, some onion and a little olive oil to bake a meatloaf it's very agreeable.

  11. No not to Islam.

    To high velocity 22.

I phoned around and could only find 100 rws HV hp so gave them a try.

I used a box on zeroing and familiarising myself with the trajectory. Actually although very accurate the odd one would barely break the speed of sound.

I do prefer the eley but.....

Anyway some one wanted woodpigeon so I got some.

On the way home I shot a rested shot at 200 yds at a little weed and purely guessing the hold hit the thing !

Noise wise they aren't to bad at all.

I shall see how it goes.

  12. Yeah, because banning stuff really really works ?

    Like heroin and cocaine!

By the way, there was a study done between bullet and brodheads, nothing in it time wise really.

The Dutch recently (relatively) reversed their ban on hunting with archery tackle.

Think it's licensed but no disasters have emerged!

Germany has a huge wild boar issue so much so the boar have learnt they are safe around suburban areas from bullets, there have been suggestions archery gear would be a safe option.

I don't know how that is going....
