  1. Well I did some walking last night.

I moved into the first one I heard barking, that went quite so I played some vixen and he showed up but as soon as that red beam located him he was on to it! He has been educated so that was a flop.

Next place, same thing the red beam spotted it at 400 yds and that was the last of that!

Drove to next farm, got out the car, walked up the drive 200yd and whollop, Charlie at 50 yds! Heart shot he runs another 50 and folds up fifty yards from me. But! I can't get over the fence, stitches are hurting by now and then as I set off for a gate I never marked where he fell!

An hour later! I still had not found him!!

This morning with Jess, five minutes ?

IMG_20181231_101518407.jpg.4cf955f20eaff3293e91384a848e2fb2.jpgoh well, am not perfect, just glad it's dead as a dead thing. Maybe Jess should stay on stand by in the car when I go foxing!

Seen four, shot one with one shot.

The federal Speer bullet loaded WMR round did an excellent job. No tiny entry hole here, good expansion very quickly!

  2. Visited a farm I don't go often and said hello to the chap. I shoot rats in the yard sometimes and woodies on his crops in summer but rarely do I visit in winter.

He showed me his new flatcoat puppies and told me to help myself to the place when ever I want!

Well it was great, pheasants, rabbits and snipe!

Never shot a snipe with a muzzleloader until today!

Missed the second one and then a little jack got up.

In fact I missed two pheasants and an easy rabbit!

I did get a hen bird with my last shot.

The real highlight was when a cock sparrow hawk came down the middle of the hedge I was stood next to after a blackbird. The blackbird got away and the hawk stopped in the hedge bottom having a breather. I was able to carefully observe him unknown by him. Those yellow eyes!!

    Grand morning.

When I was hunting ole' Mr Fezzywinkle this afternoon I noticed yet more fresh prints and they were BIG!

So bored with TV by 9pm I went for a walk. Spotted him an hour later. Another half hour of stalking and shots fired.

Federal 30grn Speer bullet. 70 yds or so, broad side.

  4. ....my daughter calls it.

    Cooked in a pressure cooker.

Diced rabbit plus small chopped onion.

    Olive oil and black pepper.

    Fry for a few minites.

Add fried ingredients to the pressure cooker with:

    Tomatoes.

    Tomatoes purée.

    Fine diced potato.

    Chopped pepper.

    Chopped chilli.

    Chicken stock cube.

    Thyme and parsley.

When cooked add a milk and corn flour to thicken.

  5. My local patches seem to be drying up from pheasants! Walkers with wild dogs over Christmas seems to have pushed them beyond what they can cope with! That and me!

19 cock birds for me and about three hens so far.

It is December and they do get smarter.

How is it for you guys?

You can always add a Neoprene sleave to attempt to get additional noise reduction. I don't know how much they help as never shot a gun with and without, but they seem popular so I guess they must add something and logic says if you put something sound absorbent on the outside of the mod tube, then it's going to reduce sound radiated from the sides of the tube. Won't do anything for the noise from out the business end though!

It's so you don't freeze your fingers in cold weather and it's quieter by not rattling on sticks and such. Makes no noticeable difference to the shot volume to mean a jot.

Lovely guns, but how did you get 30 for fox? I'm guessing these are deer authorised and AOLQ?

I told them I want it for fox. The good reason was I shoot in woodland alot with twigs everywhere and 224 and 243 bullets are being deflected to easily and risking wounding. Shots tend to be to far for a shotgun. I need a little added bullet weight and moderate velocity.

I had 30/30, 308 and 357 all for fox (and deer). Eventually I lost that ground and where I am now there are more walkers so I volunteered to surrender the CF for the rimfire and am no worse of for it.

Give them a good reason and they are off the hook! Just doesn't work so well for a longrifle due to illegal home office guidelines!

I do miss them occasionally but have many many fond memories.

  8. .....are magic.

This morning after shooting stoaty I found some good sized fresh fox prints around the chicken unit so tonight I took a casual walk with the 22 and boogerin Eck there was three fresh killed birds in the usual spot! Then I spots him and he is coming my way! At the shot through old wire fencing I heard a metallic sound and the fox got away!

I chuntered all the way home, put the 22 away and got the WMR out because now all of a sudden I could hear fox's all around barking and vixens squealing.

I was soonback on the neighboring farm try to home in on the calling but no joy.

It doesn't help having to be careful etc!

While on the neighboring farm in the near still warm air I heard another chicken buy it. He's back I thought so I slowly returned and with a completely different approach finally got a sub100yd shot of which went right of my aim but severed the neck! Checking zero tomorrow.

    The photos.

Curled up in an eternal kip.

see loads of stoats up here on a dairy I shoot... I leave them b though cos the vicious little b@stards help out with the rabbits!

    how's the recovery coming on?!

your out hunting more than chilling?

I can walk pretty good in the morning if I fast. By midday I am sore and then if I eat it hurts again! I just love being out and shooting something.

I tried the bow in the back yard this afternoon and that's ready for.....shooting now.

  10. A quick walk up the chicken units with the dog this morning seemed a good idea.

It was! Some magpies and crows betrayed a stoat eying up the chucks.

A quick squeak and the female stoat came in to 10yds. As it squirmed to the shot Jessy was dispatched to sort it out!

The thing was covered in tics.

Got a magpie too a little later, happy days.
