Not so much that One, its the fact, Fred Flintstone could land here straight from Bedrock and interact better than some of the members... I mean all topics of new members have to be verified by us, until they reach a set count, they then become full members. Looking through the topics he replied too with posts, he'd be better off staying a guest.

The basics to know are how to spell, use the English language and actually have a positive reason to join a forum, i.e you want to contribute or share something.

Go on ebay buy some rat traps, stick some bait on them and cover them with a tunnel or box..then wait..

careful you don't catch your nose in a snare IanB  Ha ha, no I'm planning on heading to Yorkshire to catch a large nosed, ginger pygmy rat for my collection... If I hang around it's known frequented locations I should be in with a chance, I.e school grounds, moth collection clubs, etc

Heritage, when fence snaring keep the loop as small as possible but big enough to ensure a catch, and make sure the point it is attached is as close to the loop as possible, with little excess wire , like keeping something on a tight rein, this does reduce the chance of it getting entangled itself, although it's hard to totally prevent..

Can we all start being sensible with topics, it's a shame when they get closed for stupid reasons. Agree to disagree, but just get over it..

Thats why I disconnect mine all the time Hily, too many thieves around, takes me 20 seconds to attach the bullets and undo it... Haven't used mine as much lately, I'm preferring a walk more now I've got the thermal..

No the benefits are,,, you can scan everywhere in sight without spooking anything, rabbit, fox, whatever you could position yourself to get the best run possible OR save your legs in the process.... If you scanned a field with a lamp, anything wise to it would be off... Your getting runs were you would otherwise struggle... It just goes to show that a lot of people are for want of a better word blinkered and narrow minded when it comes to anything different... Luddite is the word ! To be honest most, not all commenting have never used these, and just like to disagree..........

Good for you.. Whatever suits, and your happy with..
-
Gimp get up here and I'll record some footage of lamp, night vision and thermal, just to prove the benefits, then people can make there own minds up..
-
The original thread asks if anyone has used night vision when getting runs for dogs, mainly on land where they are lamp shy... No doubt about it, the right night vision or thermal will get you better runs on lamp shy rabbits and for checking if there out in certain areas without spooking them with a lamp first..
-
Best to just use or do whatever you decide is best.... someone will always disagree or have a view on every topic..

I don't think anyone is denying he will get closer to the rabbits using nv but more the practicality. Unlike an air rifle, you obviously still need to use the lamp with the dog so is it really worth the hassle and cost for 1 run? It's maybe just me but nv wouldn't enter my head if I was in that situation. He says its his pals permission and there's the key word, permission. How many on here would allow the situation of all and sundry to hammer your permission to the point of buying nv so you could get a single run? Not many I'd say, I know I wouldn't. As I said earlier, you need to look at wha

it becomes an issue when you read threads, spend fifty quid on one, walk into a dark field, turn it on and see a slightly less dark field Agree

I have a N750 and with additional IR torch I can see 300yd+ very easily... The N750 OLED eye display makes a big difference to resolution and clarity compared to the N550 though.. I don't like the grainy image standard eye displays give, anything with OLED is much clearer.. Plus like you I prefer the dedicated scope option, rather than a screen or external display..

Yes you pay for what you get...but I dont think cost was any issue when asking if theres any benefit in using NV... The model he mentioned with a T20 should be good enough to do what he needs out to 200yd+ , not the best but very useable with additional IR. Or he could just get a cat high on carrots on a lead and wait for it to pull his arm off...

You will have more success, the weather still plays a part ambient light and wind. As paulus mentioned you could get downwind of them, where you think they may be out, but then again they could be further out than normal and you may spook them early, by pre-empting putting the lamp on.... The beauty is, you can see if anything is in the field from a distance, preventing a wasted walk...or guaranteeing you a decent run.. There not needed, but on land like you say, you will definitely benefit, no doubt about it. I was out the other night, I used a thermal and spotted 12 rabbits i

Gafer, you have a spot with very spooky rabbits, it doesn't take long at all for rabbits to get wise to a lamp, be it from dog, gun or whatever.. Certain land I go on, the first hint of a light hitting anywhere in the field and there off.. all of them, gone for dust. Night vision will definitely help you get onto more runs with your dog on these type of places, but maybe only one or two in the field if there that alert to a beam as soon as you put it on for the dog to run. I don't understand people saying its unsporting, in a sense your using it to get onto quarry that is really sk

Go for a N550 second hand...if your lucky should get one for your budget, then buy an additional IR illuminator.
