Foxing Scope

Recommended Posts

don,t see the point goining any higher for lamping fox than 10x mag

:wallbash:

if you don't need any higher than 10x and your happy thats good, but trying looking at a fox on 10x at 400 yards and see how small the target area is...

ATB.

i assume you are talking about day time , not lamping fox,s at night .if this is true then more mag is better , but my opinion is at night more mag less clarity in other words get,s darker . WHAT MAG DO OTHERS USE.

AND I WOULD,T THINK OF TAKING ANTHING AT THE RANGE AT NIGHT.

+1 on the zeiss victory 6x24x56 superb under the lamp so so clear its unreal i keep mine on 12 mag and have shot foxes to 250 yards with it.

as for all this talk about adusting the px its a top of the range scope you leave it on 150 yards and from 100 yards to 250 yards you dont have to touch a thing the image is that clear

On my nightforce I know the parrallax settings for 100, 200, & 300 yards, much farther than that and I'm not interested. Usually leave it at 8x for say 230 yards, beyond that I crank it up until I'm happy with what I'm seeing. Not sure that I've ever gone beyond 16x for taking a shot, often gone farther to check something out, but too wobbly for shooting then. A 4-16x56 scope would be good.

You will never get a consensus on this one.

Scopes, reticles and magnification are so personal and also influenced by land, distance, quarry, ability, experience, etc, etc.

I shoot a fair bit with a variety of tools at assorted quarry. I don't go looking at vast distances and the majority of my shots are under 200 yards with a handful between 200-300. 300 yard plus shots are very rare for me except at the range.

For day or night I am easy with 6x out to 200 yards and very rarely shoot any distance over 8x or 10x, even 600 yards at the range.

It gets so personal, a pal uses 24x for just about everything and would favour more past 100 yards if he had it!

If you had to choose one scope for lamping foxes what magnifcation and manufacturer would you choose ?

I use a Leupold VX3 6.5>20x50 LRT, Varmint ret, zoom set 8x, works for me! It's on a Ruger Number 1 22.250.

Most of my shots are between 75 and 200 yards.
