complete load of rubbish an old country tale mind you they convinced the keeper up my way with polystyren cones that a big team of poachers wer setting them for pheasents turned out to be a couple of the beaters takin the piss .Mind you he was from BARNSLEY THE KEEPER CRAIG

I've only had a brief look at this but have added to my favourites for a good thorough read later.

I have had a brief chat with a couple of Gamekeepers I know who are also going to try and get a definative answer to this,As they say it's the birdlime that has been outlawed not the trap but whether a lighter adhesive that allows the release of non target birds without harm or undue stress is still illegal they don't know at present.

 

The birdlime was mainly used for branches and perches,And would 'glue' any bird to it,initially by the feet but then wings tail and body too would become stuck to the perch.This would cause the bird an immense amout of strees.

With the fools cap traps the bird lime would remove all feathers that came into contact with it.Striiping the bird bald.

Using double sided tape there is just enough adhesion to hold the cap in place over the head but when removed only takes with it loose feathers if any at all.

It would be brilliant if someone else here could help on finding out more on the legallity of this trap so we all know whether to bin it or not.

do not beleave everything you read in old books but give it a try and see how you go on ps i used to atach a lantern to the lurchers collar wer he would see partridges juged down and catch one out of the covey lol

Still havent had a reply from officialdom.

But the two gamekeepers I know say that it was only the bird lime that was made illegal.

the traps are legal depending on the strength of the adhesive(you should be able to remove it without ripping the feathers out)and you can't walk away and leave them for hours on end,you must be present (hidden obviously) to take or release the birds within a reasonable time.
