Meriln2008 0
Got my boy two years ago. Came from Ireland via Blue Cross Rescue. Got bags of stamina, and was surprised how quick he learned (mostly from my older boy,the Dk brindle) Just wondered if anyone else had same. >>>>> Quote Link to post

Guest jt750
I never seen one of these crosses in all my days and would imagine they are very big dogs tall heavy built ..maybe the dog here is 1/4 -3/4grey cross Quote Link to post
BenBhoy 4,706
i posted a topic few months back asking about anyone who works wolfhounds and how (if at all) useful they are on quarry? they are impressive dogs but i find it hard to believe they have the turning ability to really be effective. would love to see some working though. They use them in Oz, but i think they have deerhound in them, and dont think they would be peds.?? I think a line bred 1x to a grey, could be a good dog for big stuff, but not rabbits. Meriln2008 0
He's nowhere as big as a wolfhound, measures 29" at the shoulders but he is stocky. Can't remember how much he wieghed in at last time we were at the vets but he's a hefty lump over 30kgs(Had to lift him into the bath on sunday (rolled in fox sh1t3) His turning and braking do leave a bit to be desired. but he's as keen as mustard and has no fear. Has caught the odd rabbit at the lamp cos he'll trot up to them and pounce while they're sqatting. the dark brindle (middle pic)is the real catcher, He's not a ped but mostly greyhound. >>>>> Quote Link to post
wetdogsmell 99
looks more like a wheaton x to me mate, or even a deerhound don't belive anything anyone from ireland says, their all spoofers Quote Link to post

Meriln2008 0
Right just wieghed him (nearly did me back in doing it) he's 48kgs. And just checked the paperwork we got from the rescue, he was born in reland summer 2005. Sire was Irish wolfhound, dam was a racing greyhound. Owner of greyhound was going to have the whole litter put down when they were born, but owner of wolfhound stepped in and involved Blue Cross.Wolfhound owner ended paying costs (vet, food etc) to greyhound owner until after pups weaned,He then had two of them, other 4 were taken for rehoming by blue cross, then failing to rehome 2 of them after 6 months blue cross shipped them to England. A few months later my one went to a lady near Harpenden,Herts. She found him too strong for her so about 6 months later returned him to blue cross, about a month after that we picked him up. He was chipped in ireland by the blue cross . His coat isn't as soft as a wheatens I must be honest that I have had my doubts though,We know of about a dozen peddy wolfhounds around here and they are all Black/Charcoal and Massive.I don't ever remember seeing a Wolfy with his colour. Maybe I should of posted this as a comp to see. Anyway he's a good un' for me and a shedload of money wouldn't take him from me >>>>> Edited March 19, 2009 by Meriln2008 Quote Link to post

To illustrate my point I recnently seen a stafordshire Bull terrier for rehoming in a kennel not far from me, it was a Bull terrrier but not the type that they thought. Also during recent raids following the unfortunate events here some lurchers were seized for being of pitbull type it has not yet surfaced yet that they were rehomed from the same shelter were they are now impounded less than a year before all legit and above board. One thing wolfhounds do appear in that colour in fact they come in a wide varitey of coulours. I think they are lovley dogs and I know of one cross that was supposed to be doing the business in hunting terms. I would like to hear how your dog is doing but as the times we live in prevent it I can but imagine the wolfhound was designed to hold and pull down rather than pick up so I can think of one particular job that this cross would do well at . As a rescue was he castrated, if not then it would be interesting to see what he could produce had you the time and interest to see. Yep. He's nutless,Blue cross sorted that one in Ireland when young, Has been mistaken for a bitch (lack of clackers from the rear view). Makes no difference but is very interesting getting you guy's opinion. And I do agree with what you say on rescue centres.Maybe even moreso toward the sales pitch to rehome the dog. So maybe "I've been sold a pup" Feck it he's my boy and he aint going anywhere without me. In hindsight I Probably should of done something like 'Guess the breed/heratige'. Or maybe a rogues gallery for simular dogs with history to compare looks and features. ATB >>>>> Quote Link to post
