MARKR1985 15
Would it be wiser to get a smooth haired dog for the house then? i always thought that a working dog was ment to be kept outside and they would then know their place under master and do not get to soft inside and pick up bad habits? Steve 3 of mine are in the house and the other 2 are only outside because they trash the already trashed place! Quote Link to post

loose dog 0
Hello there, soon i am looking to get my first lurcher this comes the question of can a good lurcher be kept indoors or does the outdoors make a better dog? i ask this because i will be keeping my dog inside which i will want to get a puppie so it can socialize with everything in my house. Thanks steve I dont think indoors or outdoors makes a better dog, the important thing is that you give it a good life. A dog is not going to give up the thrill of the chase just because it is kept indoors. Keeping it indoors doesnt mean it has to sleep in your bed or eat off your dinner plate and if it is your only dog and you kept it outside whats it going to learn on its own? Personally i mix it a bit, i keep two dogs so they have always got company. They are kennelled together at night, when no one is at home they have the kennels and the run of the garden, and when we are at home the dogs come inside with us. Tough outdoor working types but also well socialised and contented pack members. Do the best for your dog with the resourses that youve got Quote Link to post

roybo 2,873
i got on in and one out...i think both make decent working dogs, but i think if they are kept in they tend to have better manners, and tend to have a better understanding of you Quote Link to post

Steve all dogs moult mate i prefer them outside anytime but i have to admit the dogs at the minute are in the house it realy doesent make f all differnce to their working abilitie just depends on yourself mate do you fancy a messy house cleaning up poor prints or cleaning up piss and shit when thier pups and things chewed up, on they other hand dogs in a kennel do have much more maintenaince like mucking them out buying straw and everything else you do need some time for this but you would have a cleaner house basically it doesent affect the dog dogs what live outside dont like it indoors and dogs what live inside dnt like it outside it all depends on you and how you feel about it at they end of the day your dogs your dicision atb r.t Quote Link to post

When it is freezing outside, do you let them get used to the heat, then put them out in the freezing cold? because, when the dog is inside it will malt, then go outside and not have a good enough coat to combat the weather.... My dogs coat have become much thicker as winter approaches, as they live outside, and they will be able to cope with it... Quote Link to post
