Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Had a call late last night about a fox that has taken to pheasant poults in a big way .Maybe upwards of 25 poults found scattered about with heads off near a pen .The keeper was up until 12.30 with the electric squeaker on constantly but tiredness forced him to bed .I woke up and straight out at 2.20 am and walked through the wood to where charlie has been causing a nuisance .A light was left on in a shed ,for me to see where i was to head for .My prefered method was to get out and lamp the area which hopefully has done the job .I spotted a fox on the side of a patch of rushes ,one squeak and it was running towards me .No need for a follow up call as this one was committed .It came to within 20 yards of me before i stopped it with a low grunt .Shot it in the head with the .222 then realisted it was a beauty ,a big dog fox with a full belly .Forgot the camera but took a pic just now at home .Would have liked to have had a pic of the carnage ,just for the record .This good deed will have secured me a days shooting on the ground im sure .
