bandit man 9
Id make sure i took someone with me if you need to do a bit digging.Rather i had somebody there there on fairly step banks mate so digging would cause the banking to cave in im going to longnet them at night first but i fancied ferreting them by day, i just wondered if anyone works sand could give some advice on do's and donts Quote Link to post
fireman 11,465
Do not dig into a sand bank while on your own,i had it happen to me once when i knew no better.I just dug straight in and put my self in the hole,it collapsed and thank god i had someone with me.Use a few ferrets and i would use a long net around the place rather than walking over the holes to net it up,we have a lot of sand here in norfolk and it can be a real hazzard, still easier to dig than clay. stubby 175
once there down i would not be able to locate them why cant you locate them once down are you not using a locator I can understand the digging in sand precutions, but it would still be handy to know where/depth etc Quote Link to post
woz 260
one of my best farms is on sand and very hilly...all the sets are very very deep.......you wont have much chance digging to your ferrets if it doesnt calapse on you it will certainly calapse on the ferret......saying that years ago we used to poach a quary and used to take huge numbers off it.....you need to way up if its worth the possibility of loosing a ferret for some decent numbers of ferrets....... lamper12 30
use a small jill that doesnt kill to ground and dont purse net it jsut longnet it so one you dont spook them into not bolting and two you dont cause a cave in a small jill.... i would use 3-4 ferrets at least if theres lots of holes. 1 jill aint gonna get things moving. atb lamper12.
