lurchergrrl 1,441
I dropped my son off at school this morning and took my three year old girls for a bit of a mooch to our usual spot. We came over a hill and there was a bunny sat on the path below. I'm so proud of my girls! I told them to stay behind me and be quiet, which they did with no complaints. My pup saw the bunny straight away and instead of gasping and pulling she walked quietly beside me, with my other dog also on lead. We got as close as I was willing to risk and slipped the pup ... the bunny gave her a bit of a run but didn't stand a chance. She was straight in for the strike, and no lap of honour with it - she stood still and let me take the bunny from her and neck it. The girls were well chuffed with "their" dog! The bunny had early signs of mixy but do I care? Do I heck! My kids have learned about sneaking up on rabbits and did what they were told, the pup was steady and calm and wasted no time. So yer, I'm a bit chuffed And of course my girls wanted a turn too. Quote Link to post

6pack 60
Look at them struggling to lift that bunny! Way to go Stella. The first of many. Quote Link to post
lurchergrrl 1,441
Thanks That bunny made for the cover, a couple of hops and it would've been safe - it's an old railway and a tight space for running on. But I'm learning, the dogs are learning, and the kids were good as gold. They weren't at all phased about the dog catching or me killing it. That makes it all the more exciting for me Ya 6pack, that's her first proper daytime catch. Our little lamping trip did her good - had this been a couple of weeks ago, she'd of been skipping around and being a nuisance. But she seems to be catching on quickly now. Quote Link to post
lurchergrrl 1,441
wow tahst brilliant well done some future hunters there They rather enjoy getting out Will, I'm so glad they're not all soft and fluffy about the whole thing, and my son isn't bothered about it either tho' he'll be cross about missing the action this morning. When I read them their bedtime stories I always stress that the bunnies in their stories are only pretend, and the real bunnies are there for the dogs to catch What a load of funny looks I got walking down a main road with two little girls, a pair of big dogs and a dead bunny swinging from my hand - one bloke nearly broke his neck trying to get a look at us Think I'm going to invest in some cammo for the girls tho - that pink is a bit bright Quote Link to post
Guest bigredbusa
i thinks it's best to get the kids involved early as possable before teachers start filling the little ones heads with shit . my daughter has just started in her new year it's called 'squirrels' and already has come out with the one liner ' my dad shoots the grey ones ' nice one lurcher girl Quote Link to post

I tell you what TM, I was surprised they got so excited I expected one of the girls to have a big pout over it but all she wanted was her turn to carry the bunny That's my girl! My son is just out of school, he had to listen to his sisters gabbing about it all the way home. When we got here he had himself a good nosey at the bunny and asked if I'll take him this weekend. Twist my rubber arm: don't have to ask me twice I'm so glad they enjoy it. Quote Link to post
