countrycommando89 7
talking to a guy yesterday who works for the dear conservation trust. i got talking to him about hunting and he said he has a BSA super 10. he said its the best gun he has ever had and drops rabbits at 40 meters YES METERS. I said do you not mean yards. i asked if it was FAC and he said no, bob on 12ft/lbs. does this sound like bollox to anybody else Quote Link to post
gilly-93 31
It only needs 3ftlbs to cleanly kill a rabbit (i was told) anyhow if it hits the killzone at 3ftlbs then id say possibly yes is it .177 or .22? Quote Link to post
PeakOil 352
Depends on caliber, how much he practices with that particular gun out to those distances. The weather conditions play a part. If the wind was non existant and the guy a very competant shot, then he may be able to take out vermin at 40 meters. Is he using a bipod? Quote Link to post
slyfox-mal 1
sonuds possible after all only ten feet difference in 40 meter to yards Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
it's possible.........but not recomended !!!! cheers sean Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
Go with Sean on this ...40metres.... NOT recommended for most shooters and most situations with a 12 ft lb. HOWEVER, this is infinitely possible! One site I have has horses and jumps and one jump is almost exactly 40 metres from a ditch/hedgerow where bunnies live. A shooting pal who often comes to this site with me has this totally sorted with his 12 ft lb Rapid Mk 1. Sits behind the horse jump and waits for them to come out...but it's just like target shooting, known distance, quality gun, plenty of support for the gun! and half a dozen head shot dead bunnies every time! hughesey1552 0
thats only 43 yards, why you so shocked if you think its possible at 40 yards? Edited August 10, 2008 by hughesey1552 Quote Link to post
woodchip 2
my gun is zerod at 50m and i take bunnies at 70m with ease my gun caliber is .177 this is a range i know i kill bunnies no problem it does some getting used to but its what im used to so it suits me . Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
Stick to 30 yds, it's a fine line between humane kill and cruelty. Further than that, .22 rf. Just my opinion. Quote Link to post
countrycommando89 7
just sounded like alot. i miscalculated a wee bit. Quote Link to post

Thats a bold statement to make woodchip if you are using sub 12ftlbs rifle because if you can take rabbits with EASE!!! at 70m im presuming you can then take them at say 100m too!!! you see i can take rabbits at 30m with ease which then gives me the confidence to take a few at 40m if the conditions are right.
