dogs-n-natives 1,182
Like I said, I heard a cuckoo today, the first for me this year. It was on the other side of the lake. In Northumberland.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Been hearing them best part of a fortnight round here, mate. Not seeing them yet like last year though. Doesn't appear to be as many around either. Maybe it's early days yet?

cragman 2,843
Heard one last saturday morning around the reservoir and I had him right in to me when I called him. He was mobbed by a few pipits as he flew overhead gowking. Woodga, you won't find a Cuckoo parasitising a Blackbirds mate.

cragman 2,843
[/quote what about cuckoo/hedge sparrow. cragman? Oh yes Byron. The hedgie's probably the thickest of the birds to allow a Cuckoo to lay in its nest...let's face it, a blue egg of the hedgy and a mottled, bigger Cuckoo egg...not much difference eh? The bird has in fact been recorded watching the Cuckoo doing the deed! Starting to fight back now though is the hedgy, hence the blue egg now being laid in europe by some Cuckoos.
