Plug in solar

Hi, i heared about plug in solar (popular in germany apparently) solar pannels on your land / roof that plugs into a normal plug socket after its been through a micro processor. Anyone on here heared of it or use it?

There's some with solar panels on the roofs of the houses in our area look ugly they are not free to have they expect you to pay something or goes on the bill

Seen abit on the news about them the other month .Seemly there widely used in Germany and are expected to take off here

I'd never heard of them until yesterday.

I know every little helps but is £74  a year really worth the time and the initial outlay?

Think it’s like all solar, it’s a long term investment and will take years after the initial outlay before you see any sort of financial gain, or break even. Hence the reason it hasn’t really caught on or been widely rolled out without government grants or by people who can afford £10k’s to feel like they’re saving the planet. Those things in the photo are on a roof and would be nicked in five minutes round my way. Fcuking ugly things to have around your house too.

Truth is the government want to make sure we don’t become power independent and without changing your house to 12:24 volt and having a huge battery bank it won’t make a lot of difference you could save more than £74 a year by collecting your own fire wood

Better return fitting a log burner if you haven't already got one. Insulate your house and start growing your own food where possible. 

Also starting storing tinned/dried food. All, at this stage better investments than these solar panels as far as I can see

For me personally,  it wouldn't be about saving £74.00 , it would be about not giving those robbing c**ts at octopus every £74.00 of my hard earned cash .

I think I'd probably do it , even if I only broke even.

If you look into solar yourself and learn how it works you could get a similar set up buying the bits separately and making your own, i was offered 400 watt panels this week for £50 each brand new

That has to be a winner . A solar charge controller and a couple of leisure batteries,  and you're away .

i was lucky got a 100% grant solar panels on the roof .interior wall insulation on all the walls and a heat pump with new radiators and pipe work .warmest the house has ever been, was worried the electric bill were going to be sky high but worked out really good ,they fitted a 4.5 kw inverter in the loft for the solar which hepls with the running cost of the heat pump
