jok 3,487
I don’t actually remember the last box I sent out but it must have been 3/4 years since. The demise in our locality of the humble rabbit made me wonder where all the ferreting gear currently resides. There must be 1000’s of boxes, millions of nets, acres of long net and more locators and spades than you could throw a stick at. Following on, where have all the youngsters gone? I know most will be in front of a screen but what about all the country lads? Even now I wish I still had my gear and the ability to ‘get out’. Just wondering. Jok.

Still have one of you boxes Jok but have fewer ferrets so I don't use it. Rabbits are very patchy now down here. Also I'm slowing down feeling the years but still getting out. Used to be setting off before it got proper light and go on all day. Now 8.30 and 12.30 or 1.00 its, f**k it lets go and have a cup of tea lol. No youngsters interested its a dying game. Only lads I know still doing it in my town were in the same class as me when we was at school, 59 years ago we left. Shame init all that gear stored away all that knowledge lost. I will carry on as long as I can but it does get harder. Not much flat ground in Devon you are always going up a hill or down one lol. Last week climbing back up the hill with a long net in a basket, bar and shovel and coat with two dozen nets in it. Had to stop couple times to take in the view lol. Cheers Arry
terryd 9,004
Still got your box here Jok. Rabbits numbers are dire but the dogs foot is blown can rarely let her off a lead which has pretty much topped it off and made me throw towel in. Shed full of nets. Will be my last dog and ferrets now. Last week end I new set of holes by quiet foot path. Dog on lead she marked it as expected. But when I had proper look holes went for long way down thick hedge. Huge drop off . Just to much which has all ways been the way around here. As a rule dog could cover holes I can’t see but like I say lead bound now

There must be quite a few still at it ( although i dont know many these days), because my mrs sells leather pouches for mk1 and mk3 locators on ebay , and she's still selling quite a few . THE STIFFMEISTER 17,709
Ferrets will be gone shortly mate know a handful of lads with them these days sad as I spent the majority of my childhood batting about yards full of them, dogs, chickens and pigeons . I can’t remember last time I saw anyone who had a litter of kits even 1

Halfhound 595
Tell me if I’m wrong but what I’ve noticed with the few youngsters that are into the bit of hunting now is that they don’t want to put the time in. Putting in a day out after hounds or a couple of hours on a good dig just doesn’t appeal to them and I’d say ferreting is the same. They want to be out at night with a thermal kill a pair of foxes in a half hour and be home with the pictures to send about. Walking for hours is just too much effort

brambles 3,418
I must have about a hundred nylon nets all pegged and very usable and there's no young lads coming through that I could give them to. Nobody wants them, terrible shame to see them just sitting there. I'll end up binning them lol
Bobtheferret 1,280
Still see plenty of people at it, whenever I breed a litter the kits always go no problem 90% to working homes, had a bloke message me out the blue only last week asking for ferrets saying he has plenty to go at but not enough ferrets. Seen some absurd numbers floating around on social media, lads catching hundreds of rabbits in a day and some thermal footage of fields full of rabbits. Hopefully some youngsters take up the game as it would be an absolute tragedy if ferreting died out.
brambles 3,418
Up here on Scotland with the ban on dogs on rabbits has certainly put a few lads off, I'm in what used to be a mining village, I'm the only one with running dogs and ferrets. Years ago there was plenty that kept them. Don't get me wrong there's certainly not the numbers there was but plenty for me lol This village and the 2 nearby I can't even think of a pigeon loft!! Changed days right enough
