Those are from just over the border, but the fields between my house and my allotments used to be the Duke of Northumberland’s partridge shoot many years ago and there still a few coveys of both types around. Cheers.
Born Hunter 17,972
It’ll be some shit old rank stag off the hill that should probably have been left there. Shot primarily for management rather than with quality food production in mind.

Love hearing anecdotes of the days greys were still dominant. Such a loss to the English countryside. I’ve read a bit about Sir Joseph Nickersons famous grey partridge manor, the Rothwell estate, and his record day. What an amazing bit of history.

jukel123 9,960
I haven't seen a covey of grey partridge for maybe 20 years. They are a great loss. Every field used to hold a covey. 357, the venison you bought may have been an old stag as Born says, or, alternatively, an old farmed hind which was sneaked into a supermarket consignment? Young venison shouldn't take any chewing! The trouble with all this living off the land lark is that it is very time consuming and laborious. By the time you have butchered or plucked your meat, you could have popped down to the supermarket 10000 times over. Not to mention the ticks, physical effort and tiredness in preparing your natural grub. But I'm only jesting really. Can't beat Nature's cupboard. I love it.
WataWalloper 4,055
We got both types a partridge here but land lord don’t allow planned shooting of anything, that’s one reason I’m here, guy still has to make money but also heavily invested im keepin the land right, last time we got lad im with few pointers in to have a count he reckoned there’s less frenchis than greys but that was few years ago
