i always thought a nice racey 5/8 3/8 bull grey would of made good pups with my bitch, but a was put off by people saying could throw back a lot to the bull, and no gas tank aswell

Then use a racy 3/8 5/8 bull x grey instead 😉

Kind of pointless worrying about breeding yet if your bitch is that young as you don’t know really what she’s lacking yet to try compliment the breeding that you would like to take place in the future

For what it's worth..give your bitch a few seasons, and work out what it is you think will improve her....if it's more speed/stamina- then go coursing bred..if it needs more heart for a task-then  line

Yes soft b*****ds these deerhound crosses

. If she was a deer grey instead of a purebred i’d 100% of went 3/8 5/8 if i had a good one to use. Then not too much deerhound that way

I’ve never done a litter before. But a guy i know who’s had dogs for years which used to be mostly deer greys said to me that if am doing bull X over my bitch i’d be best starting off with a deer grey cross keeping a bitch back proving her then doing a Bull x down the line. As it’s a much better base for a lurcher line and will help down the line. As i said im a bit more new to it and never had a litter before

Using the Bull x as the example here,Same applies for saluki X etc etc. But as someone else said previously on here it’s a long waiting game to get the exact breeding of a dog you want

Perhaps buying a lurcher pup in, and keeping your deerhound line pure, might be a good idea, given everything you've mentioned?

Would certainly be less stressful and a lot quicker.

I’d be happy enough if i could find a whippet/grey that works that would suit me ideal. Then i’d line her no probs but hard enough trying to find one. Mostly track dogs, which isn’t a bad thing but a working one would be ideal. Will just look like a deer x grey but slightly smaller i’d of thought
