Lactic acid Build up in pup

Recommended Posts

Hi

so I’ve got a bitch lurcher pup. 4 1/2months. A good month ago noticed she seemed to be getting very stiff in back legs at night. So took her a boneman to get checked out. He said she’s getting lactic acid buildup in her saddle muscle. Basically just take it easy and rest her. Which I have. Take her out once every few days and that’s only around the block but even then you can notice she’s been out that night. So I was just wondering has anyone had anything like this or similar before in a pup?
thanks

Overwalked by any chance ?

excited by having a pup that your looking forward to getting out with and making the most of the summer by taking it everywhere ?

no criticism but it’s still a puppy

mix some tins of chopped tomato for potassium amongst you dogs food and restrict the dogs walks to short lead walks for a while until it abates

I’ve seen it in running dogs, especially those “doubled muscled” non-peds. I owned one, extremely fast but suffered muscle cramps straight after a race, but haven’t seen it in a pup so young.

Cheers.

I’ll be honest I think I’d rehome the dog an get another, only walked round block every other day as a puppy will surely play a part in its upbringing, an if your still noticin it’s been OUT after that, you really ready to waste a year or 2 finding out it’s never gonna come right?

Possibly the first  time I noticed it before i went the boneman. But after that I’ve taken it really easy with like I said out couple times a week just on the lead. He reckons she’s be fine once full grown but I’ve not spoke or met anyone’s else that’s heard about it

If the pup has had this problem since 13 weeks old, I’d say a visit to the vets and a hip/spine x-Ray would be my first thought.

Hope it’s nothing serious and it gets sorted quickly.

Cheers.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking I just thought I’d see if anyone’s experienced anything similar. Thanks

Is she sore if you squeeze her saddle ?

When I went the boneman she ran his thumbs down her back. And roughly half way down he showed me what I’d call a ripple almost in her back. And he said as soon push’s abit more she’d sit straight down which she did. And he said that’s the build up.
