Getting into rabbits next I guess

Yeah .... So went to a nice old ladies place in town who raises all sorts of critters to buy some more quail to replace some we butchered. Really sweet old lady and she was super happy to walk around show us all her set ups talk animal breeding, feeding processing making jams and all sorts of stuff. Anyhow ends up she raises rabbits right? Aaannnd my wife always wanted a pet rabbit.... So $40 for some quail ended up being $90 for some quail ...a rabbit annnnddd a rabbit cage . Shes over the moon about the little critter.... But now she's looking into raising meat rabbits .... Take a girl out the suburbs and give her free will in the country and what do you have

I'll believe it when she has to kill the ones she bred for the pot.

Nah it's already been discussed me and Dad do the killing and she'll do everything else which , whatever I'm fine with

   Years ago l raised a few rabbits supposedly for meat after being given a few old commercial  rabbit cages.  We were running on the good life , self-sufficiency vibe . Silly really as l could get plenty of wild rabbits for the pot and have a surplus to sell without the bother of cleaning cages , rearing and feeding the tame ones.

Another weird thing was killing the white fluffy ones : l just didn't  like doing it. Yet l would ping a wild one's neck without a thought.

Then the penny dropped , the real money was in selling the baby rabbits to our local pet shop!

My daughter got heavily into it . Especially  after l bought her a whole litter of English rabbits at the livestock market for the princely sum of 30pence each .  The little entrepreneur grew them on ,kept a couple for breeding and flogged the rest to the shop for £3 each .

When I was 16 I'd go to the local market buy any baby rabbits under £2 , stick them on my ts50x ride in to Hull n sell them to the pet shops for £7 each paid  my petrol for the month ( now I think you have to be defa registered to sell to the shops )

Would not get any rabbits for that now you talking for a rabbit now around £40 plus depending breed

KFC style rabbit is good eating...i recommend that you confit  the meat for a few hours and then leave to cool prior to coating and deep frying,  delicious

Had rabbit strew once I was a kid didn't really notice the taste just all bones in the bottom of the pot

I got a load of show rabbits to feed my ferrets after there first moult there coats aren't good enough operantly , coming home i had a change of heart as i like the harlequin ones  , i left them in my carry box in the garage  my son walked in and says the rabbits you got for the ferrets you didn't kill them so i did  , Funny thing was the ferrets wouldn't eat them

In the past we had pet rabbits breed them once think twice never again
