I don't do slate roofing, so wouldn't comment much on it...

Over the past 30 years I've pretty much worked on most types of commercial and industrial builds from the ground up, was asked by the holding company of KFC to redesign their existing building envelope to improve the air tightness, this was rolled out nationwide, we built them from Penzance to Glasgow, had to sit countless meeting with architects and other contractors to ensure our details were rolled out, I believe this became the details for all KFC drive through builds after... we had a large supermarket contract, steel, roofing and cladding on Tescos nationwide, loads of roofing and cladding types, single ply flat roof membrane, composure, zinc, fibre cement, aluminium built up systems,...rain screen systems... we had an offshore from our main business that dealt solely in bespoke steel work, fancy staircases, balustrades, balcony structures etc... we offer a full build package.... from a green field site to completion... I've worked with 100s of architects and engineers... employed 100s of people, loads of different trades... we weren't huge but had 35 direct employed and around 60 tubby gangs nationwide at one point....

I bought a massive renovation project with 19 acres of land, at the same time renovated 2 other houses for rental, alongside 3 cottages for air bnb... the main house is nearly 6 years of work so far, using trades but loads by myself....

You may have packed a few slates in your time mate... it honestly means f**k all to me, there's lads on here that I know who I ask advice from constantly on building projects, one lad on here is probably the best welder I've seen, absolute quality workmanship...

I won't go on a back and forth with you about building a garden shed mate, the job we've just finished was a 2 year project, ran alongside 3 sports halls, a school project abd a tennis centre, plus a load of smaller jobs..and we've scaled down to the minimum as I don't need the aggro of know it all's who in truth know f**k all....

All I read was kfc lol your my hero ask @green lurchers

So we are talking about a roof on a dwelling as dc said

So what your saying is on dwellings some  have slate and a dozen other things I could go to any anywere and whack. it out

You couldn't

But you know more then me about roofing ?

I understand insulation mate or a descent bit

All the other stuff sounds like your intelligent and are killing it mate I take  my hat off to.you and like I said any time I've asked things your always spot on. There's  No flys on you

So after a bit of a delay for one reason and another, back into the tiny home. Decided to take it off the mobile base and put it on a permanent base (mainly after that f***ing monster storm early

Take no notice Jack.....he's housing 20 boat people for the Irish government....lol

Sometimes,if you don't know shit from toothpaste it's best to sit and listen, learn something new even... rather than to talk utter shite,on a subject you clearly have no experience of👍

Going back to the start. .

Wilf asked about metal sheet roofing, not slate, I gave some advice on what he asked and what I know about..  I've got his email and will send him some details and hopefully a bit of help on buying the stuff if I can..

My grandad was a roofer, pour and roll flat roofing, traditional felt roofing, my dad and both uncles are/were roofers the same as my grandad.. my old man is 74 and was on a roof 3 months ago as he can't say no lol... my grandad was at it into his 70s.... I never went down that road though, was always into the bigger commercial/industrial builds...

I doubt i know as much as you about slating and tiling, I've done a bit but wasn't my mainstay.. I've been around the building game from before I left school, on roofs from 12 or so in summer holidays, weekends etc...

I'm honesty not trying to prove how much or little I know, it matters not... I think Wilf will get the info help he needs from me though...

Building is my job mate, I build things from the ground up...lots and lots of things... I.also renovated houses for rental or sale, I've f****d about like this for 30 years...I can turn my hand to mist things, but I have chippies, sparks, plumbers, brickies etc who are better than me at their trades...so I get them to do it... my core work is steelwork and cladding systems, big units, commercial/industrial...that's my trade... but I'm happy to turn my hand to most things when I'm in the mood lol
