Bosun11 537
Not sure how many will know his dad, but young Martin Quinn was asked by BASC to interview for a podcast about life and working his gundogs, and picking up on the grouse moors. As a mate of his dad, I've known Martin almost all his life, coursed, lamped & dug with him. He was brought up with running dogs and he's a credit to field sports, and it's great that he was interviewed, and, as he told me yesterday, made sure he got a Lurcher nod on the BASC too... I went up to Calderdale to beat last year, and for me, as someone who has always operated 'under the radar' it really was a fantastic experience. Though driving up the moors, sat in a trailer full of keepers and all laughing together, for me, was a first..! Anyways, it may be of interest to some.... Quote Link to post

jukel123 9,401 Posted Saturday at 20:36 Report Share Posted Saturday at 20:36 (edited) Not having a go at the thread writer orcthe fella working his fogs but lots of grpuse moor propaganda here. Ever tried running a dog on a grouse moor? You get all sorts of silly people in fancy dress, 19th century tweed suits ,doffing their caps to the gentry and threatening to shoot your dog. They are associated with the destruction of everything in sight except grouse and only the gentry are allowed to shoot them. Birds of prey, crows, foxes and any other predator are absent. How did that happen? They are biodiversity waste lands. All the ecological benefits are there anyway, you don't need to shoot grouse to access carbon capture. I hate grouse moors. They are the playgrounds of the aristocracy. It's been estimated that if you got rid of shooting syndicates for the gentry, many more jobs would be created in wild life protection, ecological research and many other spheres would be created. I don't buy this jolly grouse moor, Enid Blyton bollocks around grouse moors. They are blots on the landscape. The obscenely wealthy saying "f**k you, this is our playground. Keep out!! But I do know that communities given Scottish Government money to buy out foreign landowners are thriving. Because my son lives in just such a community. Be great to eventually re_ introduce lynx, maybe wolf and make salmon rivers affordable for working class people. The Highlands weren't intended to house only red deer and grouse. That was an invention of the English aristocracy. They have been eclipsed now by incredibly rich foreigners. Something like half a dozen, non _ british people own most of the highlands. That not healthy for me and you and definitely not healthy for ordinary Scots mate. The Highlands used to be densely forested, now they are over grazed, stripped bare by red deer to be shot by the aristocracy. The grouse moors are the same ..artificial creations for the super rich.
