Genology & ancestry

Just doing a bit of this, started with my mum's side. I always thought that all my grandparents were pure north west England, Wales and Ireland. The DNA test was pretty clear on that, with NWE, Wales and Ireland markers only. Nothing Germanic or Nordic.

Just traced back and both sides of my mum's line (grandad was Welsh and spoke it) ultimately all come from County Cork and Kildare. Earliest I've got so far is 1786. Bloody interesting. I'm gonna start on my dad's side soon but like I said, with the DNA results it's likely no different.

This all started because I wanted to look into my granddad's war history (born in 1906). I've photos of his paybook etc and it took me right down a warren lol.

Anyone else done this? How far did you get back and what tools did you use?

You do know that you are of German or Nordic ancestry by default if you are of Welsh & Irish descent?

Just ask seagurls, he'll tell you linage ,blood type ,what tribe you originated from ,probably oompah loompahs

Good point and hopefully you know the history (Brian, Welsh safe harbour etc) but DNA doesn't lie. I have less than 2% markers from both combined.

You are talking about your recent genetic history which is obvious as your recent ancestors are from the British isles. I've had the test done about ten years back and they have their uses, but as far as your ancient ancestry, it just points out the obvious.

What about “the black Irish” ? 
Thought to be descended from Iberian stock rather than Celtic ? Derided as a myth that they are descended from shipwrecked sailors from the a Spanish Amada .

I had mine done and so did my wife, there was a surprise for me but it showed geographical area as well and it said something about they could trace back about 1500 years or something like that.

I was a clean 60/40 split and my wife was a 3 way split in various quantities. 
 

I don’t know if there are various levels of test or what one my Mrs paid for if there is levels, but it was pretty far reaching time wise and very exact location wise.

I've done the old records way too.

Yet still DNA doesn't lie. I have very few European (Germanic, Latin, Nordic etc) or Scottish markers.

Please explain why you think originally I would have that blood and why it's recent?

Worse…..Irish ! lol 

Mine was 60 % English and narrowed to an extremely small geographical area that I, and as far as I can trace the rest of my family, have lived in since day dot.

Then I was 40% Irish narrowed to one small geographical area in County Cork, when I did name checking it made sense historically when tied in with my family history. 
My grandmothers side, hadn’t really given her maiden name much thought but that’s where it’s traced to and it’s comes from a slang term that was used way, way back in the day for travelling people in that exact area when you cross reference.

You need to read up on it, seriously. So you are claiming to be mainly of Celtic blood, where do you think they originated? And it doesn't even matter really as around 4500 years ago, before the Celts, almost all the entirety of Europe, including Britain, had nigh on a full population replacement by people's from the Steppes.
